Holy crap, I didn't realize they'd be returning four of the five OL starters next year.
And that's the only senior on the offensive side of the ball.
Of course, they'll be starting kids who are in high school right now in the secondary, so...

This year has really proven that Pinkel has transformed the school though.

Before 2007 Pinkel was 34-35 with Missouri. Then they had two great years where they went 22-6 and were the closest to being anything of meaning on a national level in the last 40 years. I was kind of worried that the 07-08 years might have been a flash in the pan and possible the peak of the Pinkel era at Mizzou. A #1 ranking and a few bowl games generally is a peak for Missouri, so it's not like a it's a stretch to think Pinkel would have a hard time replicating that.

But here we are two years later as the second crop of players have started to mature and Missouri is back on the level of national contention. They may never win a BCS bowl or become regular 10 win teams (Oklahoma has won at least 10 games in 8 of Stoops' 11 seasons so far) but you have to give Pinkel a ton of credit for transforming Missouri into a team that matters in football. And if he can keep it going for another 4-5 years and pass the torch to someone who can continue the progress, even better.

Eh... it was a very gradual rise. I was never concerned that they'd fall back to obscurity with Pinkel. Frankly, I figured that 8 and 9 wins were going to become the norm, with annual bowl trips. Now, I also didn't expect another trip to the national title conversation so quickly (and that might be over in five days anyway).

I guess what I'm saying is that as of 2007 and 2008, he'd already transformed the school. He took over a program that had gone to 2 bowls from 1984 through 1999. Coming into '07, they'd been to bowls 3 out of 4 years and won 7 or more games each year. The program had plenty of momentum. That 34-35 record was hurt a great deal by his first two years when he was playing with Larry Smith's players.

Really, other than the fluky 2004 season, Pinkel's program hasn't taken a step backwards. They've improved their program standing each year. Even last year... they won 8 games in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year.

Think of it this way: Mizzou is an underdog this week, and a likely favorite in the rest of their regular season games. If they hold to that form and win their bowl game(even if they don't make/lose the conference title game), they will have averaged 10 wins a season the last 5 years.

Got to admit that I'm hoping for some wildcat offense additions and Frank the Tank busts the huskers

This year's upcoming class is pretty meh so far, but Mizzou didn't have a lot of spots open either since they're pretty young. They could still sign a few solid players late. Next year I think will be a good test of how far the program has come. There are 5 or 6 high quality players who will be seniors next year in Missouri. I want to see how many of those guys we can get.

Sheldon Richardson and possibly Anthony Pierson is not a bad start.
