The Fifth Down game is on ESPN Classic. And like a fool, I'm watching it. It was so different back then. Colorado was a villainous Big 8 tyrant, Mizzou played on crappy turf that made everyone slip, Colorado ran the option...
The dumbass announcers didn't say a word about it, which is kind of amazing.

I watched it last year during Colorado week and couldn't believe that no one in the entire stadium seemed to know. When I watch football I always have details like down and distance in my head. You would think at least one of Mizzou's coaches would be throwing a tantrum on the sidelines. Also, the runner doesn't even score on the fifth down.JL21 wrote:The Fifth Down game is on ESPN Classic. Side note: it's always weird watching older games like that for me because I can never really get a sense of how good the players are compared to today. Everyone is wearing those giant one size fits all shoulder pads and huge leg and hip pads. Everyone looks the same size and slow as [expletive]. Plus the crappy mesh uniforms with long, loose sleeves. The game looks so much faster today with the form-fitting pads and trimmed down unis. Some skill position players don't even wear leg pads. You can tell exactly how much bigger and faster players are compared to each other.

I think the video quality hurts too. Everything is so blurry they looked big and slow. But the fact is those guys were just about as big and fast as today. High Def makes today's athletes look super duper fast.cardsfansince82 wrote:I watched it last year during Colorado week and couldn't believe that no one in the entire stadium seemed to know. They weren't as slow as I perceive them to be, but I think today's players are significantly bigger, faster and stronger across the board. Much better training, much more emphasis on developing athletes at younger ages and also PEDs. The video quality certainly plays a role, but I think the game has changed.robbotis wrote: I think the video quality hurts too. Everything is so blurry they looked big and slow. Are we impressed/pooping in our pants over Nebraska yet? They're beating average D1 programs out of BCS conferences the same way Mizzou beat McNeese St. and Miami (OH).

Bad news: Nebraska actually has an offense. That was definitely in doubt before the seasonJL21 wrote:Are we impressed/pooping in our pants over Nebraska yet? They're beating average D1 programs out of BCS conferences the same way Mizzou beat McNeese St. and Miami (OH).
Good news: Martinez seems to have the throwing mechanics of an amputee. Mizzou has traditionally done alright with run-first spread QBs(Juice, Scheelhaase, Kaepernick).
Bad news: Mizzou pretty much has to win in Lincoln now. Their only hope aside from that is Texas winning next week, Mizzou sweeping the South, and Nebraska getting upset by someone like aTm.
Good news: Nebraska isn't able to get the same relentless pressure on the QB without blitzing. Teams with a better QB than Carson Coffman(read: everyone in the world) can exploit that better than K-State did.

That is hilarious.Martinez seems to have the throwing mechanics of an amputee.
Call me crazy but even with the way Nebraska is playing, I don't think Mizzou is that far behind, if at all. I'll feel a lot better about that statement if they can put an ass whoopin' on Colorado tomorrow night.

Can't watch the game... Are the Tigers as dominating as the numbers indicate?
