I think Illinois is better and their the 2010 Big 10 version of the 2009 Iowa State Cyclones in the Big 12.

So they'll be a [expletive] but well coached team that ends up in a bowl they have no business being in?

I don't even know what that means. Illinois is not any good. When they were running those play fakes and qb keepers early on they showed a style that could keep them competitive, but then they asked that kid to throw jump balls downfield. They aren't going to win many conference games at all.

They'll have 6 wins, anything less Zook is out.

I'm sorry, but I don't even understand what you're saying here. Like no clue at all to be honest.

I should have been more clear. I think Illinois can bounce back, like Iowa State, and have a mediocre season. They won't be great, but they'll be in the middle of the pack.

I think the inability to gameplan for Illinois(new coordinator, new QB, new receivers) made it a bit tougher on Mizzou's defense in the first half, yet they only allowed 13 points and really it should've been less than that if officials had any idea of what pass interference was the entire game(/bitterness). Once they had the slightest idea of what Illinois was doing, they forced Scheelhaase to throw the ball and the results were predictably gruesome.

Similarly, it took Mizzou a half to get into gear offensively. Gabbert, you're 6 foot 5 and built like a greek god, stop panicking every time you finish your drop and the ball hasn't been thrown. Disappointing that they weren't able to do a bit more, but they did score 20 unanswered and got a come from behind victory.

As to what it says about the two teams, I think it's hard to say. Scheelhaase is going to be completely different by the end of the year, so a team that would've crushed Illinois today might lose to them later in the year. Mizzou now has the rest of their non-con to adjust to not having Washington, and not having as much explosiveness at receiver. As long as they roll the next 3 teams like they should, I still think the team has the same chances as in the preseason.

Illinois was fired up and ready to play early. The biggest thing might be that first drive that took almost a whole quarter that shortened the game and delayed Mizzou getting in rhythm. Overall Mizzou is about what I expected, minus a little more explosiveness. Defense is a little better. Hopefully they can look for JJ and Egnew down the field more. Illinois is going to get that kid killed if they ask him to run all over the place like that every week.
I think that the gameplan for this game was different than it will be going forward. Illinois has apparently learned not to get into a shootout with Mizzou, and that was their strategy. Personally, as an Illinois fan, I liked the approach. Keep Mizzou's offense off the field, out of rhythm (as much as possible), and try to keep the momentum from Mizzou.

I've gone to that game 6 times now and it's never, ever, been a "neutral site" game. It's easily pro-Mizzou, and you have to treat that game as a road game if you are Illinois. As soon as Mizzou gets a lead, they play '99 Rams with a lead style defense.

I was happy with the effort, and impressed with some of Mizzou's players (Moe and that DB who made the last pick). Overall I'm not sure what to make of Mizzou. I could live without some of their fans though (thanks for the jack and coke from the upper deck, jerkoff - yes that was a roughing the passer on the first Illini series of the game).

I think if Mizzou does the following, they could have 10 wins:

1. Run the freaking ball, and not out of Shotgun motion garbage
2. Play Pass D like they did versus IL
3. Take more shots down field. Bubble screens to WR are not needed 10 times a game.
