Whether you agree with Mccain's position on the war or not doesn't matter. The POW thing is mentioned because it shaped him and because it puts him in the light of having formed his decision while being sympathetic to the tragedies of war. This isn't some favored son who's never faced horror and atrocity. Whether you agree with him or not, you do have to acknowledge that he has an understanding of the horror of war. That's why it is constantly highlighted.

I'm getting worked up too. I'm sitting here with my wife who is a McCain supporter and I'm an Obama supporter. Grrr

That's a good thing Lipp. I'm probably going to vote for Obama, but I was always listen to the other side because you never know what's going to happen in the next two months. Sadly, the vast majority of people out there only see an R or D and vote according only to that.

So he's saying something that everyone on the planet already knows?

You make this sound like this is some huge revelation...do you want him to say "Hey! Our party has RULED the last 8 years, we're going to keep doing ALL THE SAME THINGS!!!"

He'd lose a lot more votes that way then saying what he's saying, which is the truth

For you. Not for me. I couldn't care less how great an orator he or any other politician is, I care about his positions on issues. Of course I want the president to be able to pronounce the words he is saying and be able to speak intelligently on issues without relying on cue cards, but aside from that relatively low hurdle, it's what they say that counts, not how.
Well, when he finally does say what he'll do, if he ever does, then you're right. I won't like it. Probably not a word.

Obamamania is running wild because of what a great orator he is not because of his positions.
do you realize how condescending and dismissive that is?
Wow. I forgot. Bow down to Obama and slam the conservatives at every turn. Right? Wanna go back through the other 200+ pages and talk to all the freakin' liberals that have said much, much worse?

I disagree with everything that Obama stands for. I rarely hear him say anything of substance. I've heard SO many people say how they like him. When asked why, they can't name a single thing he actually is running on.

But if that's condescending and dismissive, so be it. I'd say it's pretty darn lame compared to most of the crap in this thread.
I don't think anyone here is asking you to bow down to Obama. You seem to have some a complex about that or have whole heartedly bought into the media fueled messiah business.

What's condescending and dismissive is your contention that the man hasn't said anything of substance and is only garnering support because he can speak well. Believe it or not, people agree with him. A lot of people.

That's about as simplistic of an analysis as it gets. I don't think Obama's speech was anything to get all worked up about, but even the conservative commentators I saw on TV were praising the way he went into specifics in his speech.

Just curious, what is exactly the reason for the Palin-mania that's running wild?
Palin-mania? All I really see is her getting slammed....left and right. She gave a good speech last night. But she's getting slammed by the liberal media. Last night was the first time most people have even heard her mutter a word. What's your point?

Obamanmania is simplistic. And most of the conservative commentators I watched said that it was a good speech but lacked meat.

And they're right. It was a very good speech. And it was right for the reason he was giving it. Maybe I missed all of the meat in the few minutes I stepped away. I just couldn't stomach the entire thing, I guess.

Does John McCain actually know when the Russian Empire was? And does he know that it hasn't existed for close to 100 years?

We must stop Czar Putin!

Obama growing up as a black man in America probably had a great deal to do with shaping him. He's certainly not playing that card....... not once. Why? Because he doesn't stand to gain politically from it. McCain stands to gain political leverege from being a POW.
