Gray and Arenado with some pretty critical comments of the organization. Yikes.

Do you blame them? They just went through an offseason where the only actual roster move was Phil Maton the week before spring training. When you only have so many seasons left, and you were promised by ownership that winning now was the priority, you'd absolutely feel snookered.

well before this season/during last offseason, the FO did say it and did make it pretty clear they were cutting back.heyzeus wrote: ↑September 25 25, 11:51 amDo you blame them? everyone could have waived their NTC when they asked, and it was reported all 3 of Gray, Contreras, and Arenado refused to do so (arenado also said he would obv if it was the right situation, and then blocked the trade to Houston...but it was reported that contreras and gray would not even entertain waiving)
so I do not feel bad whatsoever for gray, as he was not mislead and could have been out of this situation, but refused
(and it pains me to be on the FO side of this, as...well [expletive] them, for what they've done the last few years...but they did make it clear we were taking a step back this year during the offseason)

Gray and Arenado make $57 million, let’s say the Cards have to eat $30 million of it to trade them
The Mikolas money goes to arbitration raises
That’s $27 million that likely won’t be spent after they cut payroll by $40 million last season

If the DeWitts thought attendance was down this season; go ahead and trade Arenado and Gray and run out a rotation of Liberatore, Pallante, McGreevy, Leahy and Matthews.

I would keep Gray. Maybe we are good.
If not, flip at the deadline.
Arenado is washed. Can't imagine saving much on that contract.

Yeah I don’t feel like pitching is an area we need to (or even can) clear room for. Just keep him and trade the bats. If we happen to land something close to major league ready pitching in return, then maybe think about it.
