He’s seen enough. And given that statement, it doesn’t sound like they have much intention of trying to win next year either.

Geez, the Dewitt’s are terrible.

We're talking about a soon to be 36 year old pitcher who just posted a 96 ERA+ and is owed $35 million next year. His trade value, unless we eat half or more of that money, is minimal. Maybe it's worth it to the Dewitts to save like $10 million to give him away. Who am I kidding, it'll definitely be worth it to them.

They could've made the playoffs this year but refused to try. Now they're trying to dump whatever contracts they have left and will likely be worse next year. All so Mozeliak could have a farewell tour and Dewitt could save some money. Awesome.

Well he’s an idiot then

What did they do last offseason to make you think they’d win this year, when they asked you to waive your NTC and you said no?

Maybe he had misplaced faith in this team’s abilities?

New York Times article on the same subject:

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/666068 ... ls-future/

“I don’t know what the future holds for me,” Gray said.

“I have enjoyed my time (in St. Louis). I love the people. But I came here to win. I signed here two years ago with the expectation of winning and trying to win. That hasn’t played out that way.”

He paused to collect his thoughts.

“Yeah, I want to win. I expect to win, and I came here with the expectation to win.”

------

He would also have liked to see a higher number in the Cardinals’ win column. Though he signed with St. Louis thinking he’d be playing on a competitive club, Gray supported the organization’s decision to focus on player development this season, and publicly said so before the start of the year. He declined to waive his no-trade clause last winter, stating his preference to remain with the Cardinals throughout their transition season. However, with a rebuild looming under incoming president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom, Gray could change his mind this winter.

I don't see what he saw in the Cardinals as far as winning is concerned. Perhaps he was too comfortable playing close to home (Nashville) and that blinded him to the Cardinals' problems. He even said that he was considering retiring to spend more time with his family because he has young kids. He hasn't got much time left and if he wants to win, he needs to be on a team that is ready to win now,

He's talked about in trade talk speculation, the two teams I've heard about are the Giants and the Braves. He might be comfortable playing for Bob Melvin or being close to home, but neither of those teams were good this year. He needs to be on a win now team if he wants to have a chance at a ring.

Arenado and Gray…

Came here to win. And didn’t contribute to winning most of their tenure.
