Keith Law's reaction was "Cardinals got a f'n heist"

So he seems to like the return a lot.

Or is low on Helsley.

It is hard to say with A pitchers...this will be a fun trade to revisit in a few years if the asteroids miss us.

To me, this is the first indication they’re punting 2026. We’ll know more tomorrow.

Tyler Rogers has also been quite a bit better than Helsley this season. Helsley carries the Proven Closer tag (that he'll lose in NY), and gets more K's. But Rogers' stingy walk rate as the primary setup man in SF makes him a more attractive target.

Interesting. I'll have to take a look. Perhaps I'm missing something on Baez, but I don't see a starting player.

I also own the fact that I just don't like chase prone hitters. That's the one area that I rarely see marked improvement in a hitter. I'd much rather find high contact, good swing decision hitters who have upside in rotational acceleration.

Dohm is a nice pickup, he was a 2nd round talent to me and I'd have taken him over Holliday. I don't know much about the other pitcher, honestly, but his pitch data says he has a real shot to make a major league debut.

You can say the same thing about maton but no way he should command a better return than helsley

Mo botched this one as usual

Not according to his article?
I don’t like this for the St. Louis Cardinals, to put it mildly. Yes, Helsley’s a rental, so it won’t be hard for them to end up “winning” the deal in terms of value returned — if any of these guys gets to the majors, which is not a guarantee, they’ll probably come out ahead by WAR or your metric of choice. Helsley was one of the best relievers on the market, though, and this can’t have been the best possible return.

Infielder Jesus Baez is the most talented of the three prospects the Cardinals received, easily top five in the Mets’ system just on raw tools, but he’s not a very good baseball player. His approach at the plate is just bad, he doesn’t play hard on either side of the ball, and he showed up out of shape this season. He has great bat speed and projects to plus power, although he gets ready so late at the plate, I’m surprised he can get to better velocity. He’s hit .244/.334/.406 this year in High A as a 20-year-old after spending the first week in Low A, with just a 16.7 percent strikeout rate.

Apparently people were posting law’s quote incorrectly; he called it a f’n heist for the Mets

He hates the deal from our perspective from his article

For as bad as Helsley has been this year, I feel like the return is about right

Keith Law is really good (probably unpopular), but he doesn't BS about players and I like that.

FanGraphs guy is good because he is tepid on everyone (as I believe you should be).

Those are the two that are the best evaluators in my opinion. Any of the top guys you should listen to, because they are reporting what team sources are telling them.

Baez is a lazy tools bet. That's generally not great percentage.
