Ouch. A 2nd rounder who makes it to the NHL, but then is only worth a 5th rounder in a trade. That seems to be player value heading in the wrong direction in his case.
For sure. It does happen though. More often than a draft pick "hits", I would think.

My daughter got "student rush" tickets to tonight's game. I'll be there.

Hoping we get a fired up team after the last couple of sh!tty performances.

I wish Peru well. Injuries really hurt his chances. I thought he had a pretty good year this year. Maybe he can be a bottom pair d man who also gets pp time.

A 5th seems like a poor return for a former 2nd rounder but plenty of 2nds miss entirely. (We got Texier, a former 2nd with more nhl success than Peru has had, for a 4th) You can get solid role players all over the nhl draft. Plus, a 5th is better than letting him walk for nothing. It’s a lottery ticket if nothing else.

Barring some crazy 5-0-1 run before the 4 nations tourney, I think the blues are done. I assume they’ll try to move guys like saad, faksa, Tex, etc during the tourney. I’m guessing we aren’t able to move many guys without retaining salary though. Maybe next year when a boatload of guys are in the final years of their deals.

The good news is, if the cap goes up to $95m plus, we can probably afford hofer even if we don’t sell anyone. Then a lot of coin comes off the books the following couple of years. Just in time to open a window.

This is a good writeup about Scott P.

https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/new-york- ... son-injury

Former Hobey Baker award winner (2020) as the best player in college hockey. Second round pick by the Blues. Injuries have really hurt his career growth.
Good time to note that many Heisman, Golden Spikes, and Naismith winners never make it in the pros either.

Especially true for hockey, where college hockey is third tier for elite prospects (Canadian Juniors and international).

Maaaaaaann.

That game was brutal to sit through.

Zebras [expletive] us in the first and then we just slept-walked through long stretches of the rest of the game.

Oh and buch’s extension doesn’t even start till next year, and he’s been invisible all year

Man, I wish they would’ve traded him when they had the chance before deciding to keep/extend him. Could’ve gotten a damn good return imo.

Saad on waivers. If he clears he is going to Springfield.

Stinks but probably necessary. His trade value is probably at its lowest. A good run in the minors might convince someone to take a shot at him next year.

Does he count towards the cap still if he clears waivers? I assume yes.

Buchy has had a rough year, but he’s been good before. I’d bet on a bounceback year. He’ll be overpaid, but he’s probably a nice guy to have when half your top6 are likely to be rookies (snugg, dvorsky) or other young guys in the next couple of years (Holloway, bolduc, etc)

Oh wow; didn’t see just a waiver; thought they could’ve traded him but guess not! From trying him on the 1st line to waiver. Stinks as I like saad. Seems like a guy who’s automatic for 20 goals a year.

Also from Army…

"I talked to he and his representative. If he gets claimed, he'll be on a new team. If not, he'll go down to play in Springfield. That will open up some space for different players that I'd like to see get in the lineup. So we'll see where it goes."

The guys on 101 ESPN had clips from the Army presser earlier. He said he was trying to trade Saad, and there were simply no takers for him. My guess is he clears waivers and goes to AHL.

Not sure what that does to the cap for the rest of the year.
