As with all no-trade clauses, it's to give him some leverage.cardsfantx wrote: ↑July 25 23, 2:45 pmWeird that he has mostly teams that are typically contenders

Depends on how you want to use your no-trade clause. Most players (and their agents) want it in their contract for leverage. If you only get a limited no-trade clause, it makes some sense to list contenders because the non-contenders aren't likely going to try to trade for you anyway. So now if the White Sox can put together a deal with the Dodgers for example, Lynn can say "I'll waive my trade clause IF they pick up my 2024 club option."cardsfantx wrote: ↑July 25 23, 2:45 pmWeird that he has mostly teams that are typically contenders

Cardinals are discussing an extension with Hicks? (per MLBTR). That's unexpected.

If he signs an extension, would that make him more attractive to buyers?Famous Mortimer wrote: ↑July 25 23, 3:53 pmCardinals are discussing an extension with Hicks? (per MLBTR). That's unexpected.

Then you can sign him in the offseason if you want

watch; we won't make any big trades...prob just sign our FAs to be to extensions and roll with the same club next year, since this one is great

Why risk losing him as a FA when you can extend him and likely at a more reasonable rate to allocate $ elsewhere for 2024?cardsfantx wrote: ↑July 25 23, 4:07 pmcrazy...trade him and get prospects

I don’t see how signing a FA-to-be relief pitcher is good business at all.

what's spending a few months in say LA or somewhere going to change? if he gets traded to the dodgers say, and loves it there and then wants to sign an extension after the season with them instead? well then that just shows you how much work we have to do as an organization, if spending 2-3 months with a team completely changes your outlook.

you take the prospects in a trade
and if you want him back, then re-sign him
if he costs more than an extension would right now? so what, it's just money and you have new prospects in your org to offset that thinking
