Hopefully Carrie will be able to bounce back with a full recovery. Lucky for her she had the heart attack at the tail end of the flight and not somewhere over the Atlantic.

Rogue One is in my top 3 of the entire franchise. Maybe top 2.

Top 3 for sure. Empire, New Hope, Rogue One...I could see it overtaking New Hope on my list but never Empire.stlouie_lipp wrote:Same here.BW23 wrote:Rogue One is in my top 3 of the entire franchise. Maybe top 2.

New Hope is pretty amazing, too. I'll give it a rewatch, but I think it would be tied with New Hope. Just re-watched Force Awakens (for the 4th time) and it's come down a step from my initial reaction to it. I would put it 4th.
I also can't bring myself to re-watch 1-3, but I'm wondering if they're not as bad as they've been made out to be. Yes, Hayden Christiansen is terrible, and JarJar, but if you can get past that to story... No... I just can't do it.

Stupid nitpicky nerd complaint time: In the opening of A New Hope, the Death Star plans are supposed to have been beamed to Leia's ship by Rebel spies rather than taken directly from a battle. The pretense of being on a diplomatic mission makes no sense if Vader and company literally watched their escape from the battle scene.Fat Strat wrote:One of the coolest things about the movie, for me, was how closely it tied in with A New Hope. Toward the end of the movie, I started to realize that you could almost think of Rogue One as the first two hours of A New Hope. They almost make one seemless movie.

But, they were beamed to the ship -- not to Leia's ship, but to the command ship, which is captured by the Empire.Arthur Dent wrote:Stupid nitpicky nerd complaint time: In the opening of A New Hope, the Death Star plans are supposed to have been beamed to Leia's ship by Rebel spies rather than taken directly from a battle. I'll have to watch Rogue One again -- details are fuzzy -- but I thought the assumption was that smaller ships scattered and one of them had Leia and the droids on it. It doesn't show this, but I'm assuming Vader tracked them down soon after the battle and that's the start of New Hope.
After all, by that point, they are over Tatooine rather than whatever planet the spies are on in Rogue One (forgot the name already). I'm sure I'm missing details, but that's how I pieced it together in my mind.

Right. I'm just saying that in A New Hope, it's pretty clear that the idea was that the Empire is boarding Leia's ship because they detected transmissions beamed to it from afar. The crew claims that they are on some kind of diplomatic mission and know nothing about this, so the ships is searched. An Imperial official worries that holding Leia is dangerous, presumably because she has some kind of diplomatic status. If they were caught after literally fleeing a battle where they were observed by Vader himself as part of a Rebel fleet assaulting an Imperial installation, none of that makes any sense.Fat Strat wrote:But, they were beamed to the ship -- not to Leia's ship, but to the command ship, which is captured by the Empire.Arthur Dent wrote:Stupid nitpicky nerd complaint time: In the opening of A New Hope, the Death Star plans are supposed to have been beamed to Leia's ship by Rebel spies rather than taken directly from a battle. Not actually a super important point, but I think if you actually watched the films back to back, it would seem odd.

They did jump to hyper speed and the Tantive IV is basically like the Toyota Camry of spacecrafts so the empire couldn't say automatically for sure it was the exact same ship.

Re: Star Wars Thread
Vader isn't aware whether the plans were beamed to the carrier ship or the Tantive IV because it's slaved into the ship's external communication relays when docked.
I agree that I always assumed the plans were beamed to Leia's ship from afar and the Empire intercepted the direction of the transmissions, but the way Rogue One portrays it still works. Leia is playing the "don't admit to any wrongdoing" card. They can't prove to the Senate Leia was part of the attack at Scariff because Imperial logs will show the presence of the Death Star (headcanon). Vader even says "If this is a counselor's ship where is the ambassador?" right before he crushes Captain Antilles, implying they were involved in the hijacking of the plans and weren't prepared for having diplomatic cover. Leia's entire cover story never made that much sense either. "I'm a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan!"
Babe, you're all the way out in the middle of nowhere at Tattooine.
