My son, (named after Iorg) who is going to school in Chicago, attended last night's game at the United Center. He said it just doesn't seem like a real win when they have shoot outs to determine the winner. He said he thought that they should at least have 3 forwards going against a defenseman and a goaltender until one team has a two goal advantage.

There's a push for the league to go to a 5 minute 3-on-3 game. Several GMs are promoting the idea, I'm all for it as well. Rarely would a game make it past a 3-on-3, every line change is an odd man rush.

There's not a person alive that would rather watch a gimmick like the shootout decide a game over Oshie-Backes-Pietrangelo vs. Toews-Kane-Keith.

I'd rather have a tie then turn a 2 point game into a 3 point game. If they are going to continue to offer charity points for losing in overtime, they also need to make a regulation win worth 3 points.

I'm good with ties, with a 10 minute OT, if they do away with 1 point for an OTL.

Or I'm OK enough with the current system if they switched to 3 point games. 3 points for regulation win, 2 points for OT or shootout win, 1 point for OT or shootout loss.

And the first 100 or so years of professional hockey.

The only issue I have with that is if teams decide it's too risky to conduct a line change. Then you'd get 3 minutes into the OT and all 6 skaters would be moving like the fat guys from NES' "Ice Hockey".
