Probably because according to doctors and their "science" if you have like 5 beers a week that's alcohol abuse.jim wrote:I was in a training class this week and we touched on substance abuse in the workforce. Some study said that 3 out of 4 people that meet the definition of alcohol abuse never have negative consequences job-wise/relationship-wise etc.. with it. That's good news fella's ... we got the numbers working for us.

We've gotten to the point on GRB where you can omit the phrase "small sample size" entirely, and everyone knows what you mean.vinsanity wrote:Anyways, I know the numbers are ridiculously, but if my current acquaintances - work or other are any indication - there's a lot more 20-30 drink-a-weekers than I had previously thought.
How does that define negative consequences? If it means some pretty epic hangovers or one or two bouts with what may have been alcohol poisoning then I'll cop to that. But from an "experience" standpoint I've never had one I'd call negative. Even the painful or embarrassing ones have been worth it.haltz wrote:We've gotten to the point on GRB where you can omit the phrase "small sample size" entirely, and everyone knows what you mean.vinsanity wrote:Anyways, I know the numbers are ridiculously, but if my current acquaintances - work or other are any indication - there's a lot more 20-30 drink-a-weekers than I had previously thought.
I like the definition that makes an alcoholic someone who continues in spite of or experiences negative consequences, not some arbitrary threshold of drinks. I'm probably one according to both, but the former makes more sense.

Beer doesn't count. Would you worry if you drank 5 glasses of water a day?vinsanity wrote:Losers. I mean 5 beers a day is cool...right?G.
