Recently picked up and started "Catherine" for the PS3...oh my Lord. This game is so miserably difficult and punishing. And the story and imagery are pretty [expletive] up in the meanwhile. I like the psychology aspects of it, but the gameplay so otherwise makes you want to throw the controller across the room time and time again. Oi.
Yeah I beat Catherine shortly before Christmas. It's a very [expletive] up concept for a game. I had to youtube walkthroughs on occasion for various levels, cause I could never find the right combination of blocks to move. I played through it as the good guy the first time - I wanna play through it again as a bad guy.

Also, I wasn't a fan of the iPhone port of FFT that I mentioned above - it's supper buggy and crashes all the time. Plus they kept a lot of the Japanese names for most of the stuff, so it's kind of a pain to remember things. So I found it for $6 on eBay for the original PS1 version, which is completely backwards compatible with my PS3.

Now that I know I can get them super cheap, I should probably look to buy Final Fantasy VII and VIII to complete my childhood triumvirate of wasted time - I swear I lost at least a year and a half of my life from those three games.

We need to play TF2 together...I have it installed but haven't had the time to start up. We can team up and suck together.

Also, Portal rocks.

Portal 1 and 2 are just amazing.

Now that my pc is totally pimped out (my i5 is rockin at 4.2ghz baby!), games are just silly good-looking. About a third (I'd guess) of the way through Mass Effect 1. Stupid Steam holiday sale - bought Fallout3 GOTY, Dungeon Defenders, Heroes 5 and more. Poor BF3 is hardly getting played, and it's the best looking game I have.

i played portal 2 on xbox but never portal 1. i installed portal 1 and have done maybe 16 out of the first 19 tests...and i think about 12 were recycled into portal 2 so far.

My roommate also tried to play 1 after beating 2. I tried to get him to do them in order, but he found 1 disappointing.

The key to loving portal 1 was that you had no idea that Gladys was going to go nuts early on. I fully thought it was just a dinky, fun strategy game that Valve made to play with physics, and distract its CS and TF players for awhile. Then you start seeing the little rooms with the Cake is a Lie, pick up on Gladys' hilarious humor, and suddenly a simple puzzle game gets epic out of nowhere.

Portal 2 starts big and stays big, so players miss out on that crazy reveal of the first. But, hey, no worries. Portal 2 is so awesome that it can stand alone just fine.

that makes complete sense. im still enjoying portal, i love the atmosphere and everything about it but yeah, i think for many it would be difficult to play 1 after 2.

FWIW, you can get the entire portal 2 soundtrack here (free)

Okay, I picked up the Uncharted 3 PS3 pack today, along with the Uncharted 1&2 pack. I've watched complete playthroughs of the first two, so I'm wondering if I should start with the first and play through to the beginning, or just get started on #3 and then decide whether I prefer multiplayer on #2 or 3.

I'm in disbelief. This console that is like 2 months old comes with a composite cable? I mean, I know HDMI cables were not standard back when the PS3 first came out, but this is several years later, and you could at least give me some component cables I could live with for a night so I didn't have to run right back out to the store.

Then they couldn't charge you an additional $25 for a few wires. And you may or may not be surprised how many people don't understand that using the other cables gives a better picture over the yellow one. Half the Xbox's I ran into at college to play on didn't have widescreen or HD turned on.

Yeah, I've been playing Skyrim for awhile...and am only a third of the way through. Haven't been this addicted since Fallout 3.
Just got Skyrim this weekend. It is amazing. I'm only a few hours in so far but I love it.
