I got to go there for a week for work. BEAUTIFUL city. I loved it.

I didn't get to see a ton of the city. I was there for work. A coworker and I did walk around the outside of Sagrada Familia around sunset one evening. You have to purchase tickets to go in ahead of time, which I did not think to do. D'oh!

We also went to the beach area and walked along the boardwalk, then had dinner at a restaurant right on the water. AMAZING.

One of the things I loved the most was just the architecture. The style of the buildings along with the way the blocks are so well thought out... it just scratches an itch in my soul.

Perhaps my favorite experience while I was there, though, was this little bar/restaurant we found right after walking around the perimeter of Sagrada Familia. Already completely in love with the whole city, we went in for dinner and a beer to this place right by S.F. The windows and doors were open and a cool breeze came through the whole place. They had on world cup soccer. The smell of the paella was incredible. We sat down, got these huge beers, cheered along with the other soccer fans and had an incredible meal.

I cannot recommend Barcelona strongly enough. YOU HAVE TO GO.

I've been twice, and had a blast both times. I'd have a lot of recs. But the main thing is absolutely buying tickets in advance to the Sagrada Familia, and going late in the day when the sun will be shining through the stained glass. It's amazing. Like if the City Museum were a church.

The same architect, Gaudi, also designed Park Guell. Originally it was going to be a mini-city within the city, but it became a park instead. Lots of Dr. Seuss looking architecture. He designed some other buildings in the city that are worth seeing too.

Be forewarned: this is an all night city. Certain parts of the city are loud all night. Dinner is at like 11pm. The food and drink are amazing and amazingly cheap compared to the US. A family of four can dine very well, with drinks, for like $50.
