Firing people-more of a rave then it should be

I like firing people. I don't know why. Not just anyone though but incompetent [expletive]. I love firing them. It is like they can't see it coming and when you hit them with it they are like "but I'm so awesome." Then it turns into "you can't do that I need this job." I guess they should have thought about that before they [expletive] sucked.

This girl is hired to do nothing but answer the [expletive] phone and take messages, direct calls, take down info, and give out basic info. A very important customer calls and she just didn't answer it. To top it all off she left me a note saying "Dr. important guy called.... I didn't answer." You have got to be [expletive] kidding me! My next call was to her telling her not to bother coming back to work today.

My suspicion is it won't be at all hard to find someone to work for ten bucks an hour to answer the phone and play on the computer all day. I really don't care if they surf the net, facebook, whatever as long as they answer the phone when it rings.

I know it makes me an [expletive]. I wouldn't enjoy it if this girl didn't have it coming. I've let her stay about two weeks longer then I should have anyway. She had a decent resume, was organized, but I guess it turns out she's not much of a worker. She is an interesting dichotomy to the retired guy I hired who busts his butt and does a great job. I think I'm a pretty good boss. Do your job and that's all I want. I don't bug my employees, I don't lurk over their shoulders, or any of that. I just want them to do what I hired them for. I'll pay them the best I can and if they do well for an extended period of time I give out raises and bonuses. If a worker is bad though well I guess I enjoy giving people what they deserve.

Some people definitely deserve it, but I NEVER enjoy it........ not even a little bit. It's easily the part of my job that I dislike the most.

I've had to fire people that I KNEW really needed the job (family to take care of, new truck, etc.). While I don't disagree with the notion that "they should have thought about that before they did a poor job", I still hate that their family is going to be left in a really precarious position.

Lots of truth here, IMA. It's definitely easier in a case where the person is just working to make some weekend spending money (which sounds like the case here). Also, I definitely agree that sometimes in cases like this, you're doing them a huge favor.............. sometimes this is what it takes for people to see the light and get their priorities right.

The only people I've fired have been people that I've caught straight stealing out of a cash drawer. It's surprising and enlightening how a person can rationalize almost anything. In every case, the offender felt like they were somehow in the right. I've taken a lot away from it about the human psyche, if that makes sense. True self-awareness is ridiculously difficult, and maybe impossible.

The only exception was a girl I had to fire for a three strikes policy that I was sleeping with. The owner asked me (knowing something was up) if I had a problem with it. I said no. I called her to the office and she thought I was flirting I guess. I'm surprised she didn't kill me.
