This is pretty shocking. By most accounts, he was neck and neck with Franklin for the starting job. I'd assumed that Glaser would transfer but not Gabbert. Corbin Berkstresser's role just became a lot bigger.Whether Gabbert transferred because of his No. 2 spot on the depth chart is unknown. Because Gabbert entered Mizzou with Franklin, it’s unlikely he would’ve been surprised by being beat out. Furthermore, Gabbert still had a chance to beat out Franklin over the summer, so his transfer certainly raises questions.
Pinkel will not make a further statement on the matter. Gabbert has yet to make a statement.

I imagine he and Pinkel and Yost had a sit down and they told him that he should do what he and his family think are best.CARDS 4 CHAMPS wrote:http://kbiasportsextra.wordpress.com/20 ... -transfer/

I'm betting he ends up someplace with a pro-style offense. If I watched my brother, who had been groomed for the NFL since youth, slip from a potential #1 pick to the third QB drafted, due largely to questions about the offense he ran in college, it'd make me take notice.

Early potential landing spots (per the Columbia Tribune):
Anyway, if Tyler Gabbert is transferring to enhance his NFL draft stock, then he also needs to transfer into a taller body and throw a lot harder. As of Monday, the family is considering Arizona, Clemson, Iowa, Louisville and Wake Forest, Chuck Gabbert confirmed.

I would've thought Gabbert burned the Shawn Watson bridge, ruling out Louisville, but perhaps not.

I can't speak for the other schools, but Iowa is rock-solid at quarterback already.

Re: Tyler Gabbert to transfer from Mizzou
Cam Newton didn't play in a pro-style offense either. And Mizzou has their last three QBs in a row in the NFL regardless of their offensive system. I bet the list of teams that can say that is very small. The announcement caught me by surprise, but I don't particularly mind it. As long as Franklin can throw the ball accurately, I think his running ability adds another interesting wrinkle and the offense will do well. If Gabbert simply wasn't good enough to win the starting job, I'm not sure why he thinks going somewhere else will be much different. It's not like Franklin is some can't miss prospect that he's stuck behind. I've also mentioned before that I liked Berkstresser a lot when I saw him play, so this makes his path to the job a little less cluttered.

James Franklin's comment following this:
"Thank you everyone for the nice words and comments! I really appreciate it. I will be working hard to do the best I can next season! I hope you all are showing Tyler Gabbert respect too. He deserves it along with the support as he looks for a new school to dominate. Best of luck Ty"
