Memphis lost 9-4 to Albuquerque to close out their series with the Isotopes. I’m guessing they aren’t to sad to see them leave since the topes have taken 3 of 4. Troy Cate gave up 5 runs over 3 and 1/3 innings. I wonder if that brings to a close the Troy Cate as starter experiment. He hasn’t been even remotely good since joining the rotation. John Rodriguez was 2 for 3 with a walk. Brendan Ryan and Nick Stavinoha were each 1 for 3. Box Log

Springfield won 4-3 against Arkansas. Mitch Boggs gave up 1 run over 6 and 1/3 innings. He seems to have either really good or really bad outings. Chris Perez gave up a 2 run homer (the first runs he’s given up since April 5th) but still managed to pick up the save. Jarrett Hoffpauir was 1 for 3 with a homer. Tyler Greene was 1 for 2 with a stolen base. He’s had a nice resurgence lately and has bumped his average from .193 on April 27th to .233 today. Box Log

Palm Beach lost 7-1 to Sarasota. Tyler Norrick gave up 2 earned runs over 7 innings with 4 strikeouts, but he took the loss due to a lack of support from his offence and the bullpen. Brandon Yarbrough was 1 for 4 with a homer. Jose Martinez was 3 for 3. Box Log

Quad Cities split a double header with Cedar Rapids.

-They won the first game 4-1. Blake King gave up 1 run over 6 innings with 5 stakeouts. However he had something of a Rick Ankiel moment in the sixth. He sailed through the first 5 innings and got the first two batters in the sixth, but the next batter reached on a single. He then threw 3 consecutive wild pitches to allow the runner to score. To complete the Ankiel experience, he then struck out the batter to end the inning. Brandon Buckman was 4 for 4 with a homer. He’s either leading or tied for first in the Midwest league in a number of offensive categories including rbis and homeruns. Box Log

-They lost the second game 4-2. Brandon Dickson had his worst outing since the first game of the season. In fact, it was almost identical to the first game of the season. He gave up 4 runs over 3 and 2/3 innings with 3 strikeouts. Even after that outing, his ERA is only 3.15 which indicates how good he’s been in all of his other outings. Brandon Buckman added another hit. Jim Rapoport was 1 for 3 with a homer. Box Log

In the Springfield game not only did he give up the home run he also had the bases loaded with one out and struck out the last two hitters to get the save.

Thanks. The Springfield game ended at the same time the St. Louis game did, so I didn’t get a chance to actually follow the inning. Like I wrote a few days ago, I think Chris Perez is just trying to prove he can be a true replacement for Izzy.

Seriously, I wonder if he will be promoted to Memphis soon. The pitching situation there is a total mess right now.
