Walks

I am not a "stats" person, but, is there any numbers on runs scored by walks? Not referring to starters, but relief pitchers. Nothing gets to me more than a pitcher coming in and giving up a walk and we lose because of it. Would you rather see a walk or a hit or is it the same? I normally, about 99 out of 100 times would rather see a hit, but when pitching to Bonds, a walk would not have bothered me. I guess when the winning run is scored off a walk, it irks me more than a hit.

as long as there is no one on base a walk is equal to a single. if there are runners on it's different and obviously with no one on a double is worth more than a walk or a single.

From a run expectancy standpoint, a single with the bases empty is worth 0.29 runs and a walk with the bases empty is worth 0.29 runs.

With men on base, a single is worth between twice and three times as many runs as a walk, depending on where the runners are and how many outs; on average across all situation in which men are on, a walk is worth 0.42 runs and a single is worth 0.73.

Properly weighted and across all situations, including both men on and bases empty, a walk is worth 0.35 runs and a single is worth 0.49 runs.
