He was going decent into the fifth... through 4 and 2/3 he had given up 3 runs... now he had the bases loaded and just gave up a grandslam to Torii Hunter after having him down 0-2

That's a shame, I was hoping he'd have a good season.

his ERA dropped from 31.00 to 13.00, now its back up to 18.00

of course this is only his second start and we have seen how guys have just a small sampling, but you have to wonder if its going to get in his head....

of course his next 2 starts against the Angels and the Royals so it could be a way for him to lower his ERA then... but it depends since the Royals have hit a bit and the Angels are decent as long as Guerrero is in the lineup

and then if nothing changes his next 3 starts after that are against Boston in the makeup game from last week, Detroit, and the Yankees...

his official line is: 6 innings pitched, 10 hits allowed, 7 earned runs, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, 1 homerun allowed9looked like he was pissed on it from the highlight I saw) and his era is now 15.75

I don't want him to have a good year. I hope Marquis and Sup do well. But when players come here and revive their careers, a certain amount of appreciation is due. Weaver was given an appropriate contract offer, kinda like Kip Wells was. I hope Wells blows Weaver outta the water and cashes in. Weaver was given the opportunity to improve his game,confidence, reputation, and salary leverage by playing here another year (where the fans would have embraced him).

Apparently he felt like the "fair" offer was a slap in the face, despite the backing he received from his manager, pitching coach, and the teams fans.

In the real world, people often have to decide between loyalty and pay.

Weaver went to the highest bidder, not for the multi-year contract as was thought to be hang-up (and for which the Cards ponied up a two yr deal) but for a 10-15% increase over what the Cards offered, saying "screw all that" I have now learned to pitch anywhere. Thanks for the ring Dunc, but it's time to move on.

He's entitled to make his own decisions. But I'm not wishing him well while the spit is still wet on my face.

Too bad he can't play the Cards - he'd have his ERA in respectable territory in no time at all.

Call me callous, but I didn't like Weaver before he came, so I don't like him now. I'll always be glad for what he did there at the end, but he has shown at several stops that he just isn't that good.

I wish nothing but good for Suppan though, except against us.
