Really? That sounds completely made up. What football team doesn't make adjustments at all during the course of the game?
It might sound made up, but it's not.

Ask any Iowa fan who watches them on a daily basis and they'll tell you the same..

I'm not agreeing with it, and in fact, the entire game exchanged text messages with other Hawk fans to the extent that it was ridiculous that they were letting Gabbart have a beer in the pocket while carving up the stupid defensive scheme, but that's what they do, and have done for years.

Did it look like to you that they made any adjustments last night (again, with the exception of 3, THREE, blitzes on the final two drives)? Because it sure didn't to me. Watch the tape of Northwestern's comeback earlier this year, they started to go no huddle and use intermediate routes and Iowa had no answer, and continued to run the same scheme. It drives Iowa fans nuts, but sorry, it isn't made up.

High five, guys! Thanks for all the Hawkeye love!

Anyway, I can't tell you how many diehard hawkeye football fans I work with/ know that pretty much said Screw It and let's go 2011 after the Hawks lost those last 3 games so crappily. Then all this pot drama. Wow.

Ya so great game, I watched itdown here in St Louisland with 4 Mizzou guys. I told em before kickoff that the Hawks would either get steamrolled, or win a close one. I'm happy for the latter. Excellent game, officiating was meh, lots of great plays for both teams.

Ps not all Iowa fans are stupid. Most of us are though

I hope he's standing at a podium holding up a Dolphins jersey in April.

Maybe the Mizzou football thread isn't the best place to put this, no?

Seemed lame to start another thread, since everyone here was talking about the Hawkeyes. If you think it should be moved, I'm cool with that.

Pinkel has the formula down pat for exactly the type of seasons they've been having. Beat all the teams they should -mesmerizing bad college Ds with their offense. Lose one they shouldn't. Win one tough game. Lose one tough game to a D that has a defense.

It's a pattern - not necessarily a bad one -and typical to the stupid NCAA system which affords teams no margin for error.
What this is is a very vague(and very incorrect) template that you can mold to fit your view.

Mainly the reliance on gimmick offensive scheme that calls for 57 passes in games -can work against the mid level teams that they play.

Their inability to line up and run the clock out or pound it at goal line, has cost them a big game each year. Its fine to have that offense in their arsenal, but to completely rely on it is almost Pinkel's way of saying -"we know we can't win by going toe-to-toe with the good teams".

Then we get to hear Mizzou fans shock and dismay about Gabbert's (or his predecessor) errant pass or two...out of the 57 thrown?!

They were 48th in the country in rushing yds. this year, 5th in the Big XII. In 2008, they were 40th in the country. In 2007, they were 30th. In 2006, they were 43rd. That's out of more than 100 teams. The only year where they flat-out sucked running the ball was 2009 (80th), and that was when they were averaging 3.7 yards per carry and running the ball a bunch of times would've lost them some games.

The number of times they've passed 57 times this year? Once. In the bowl game. The number of times they broke 50? Twice. Once in the bowl game (when Gabbert was in the middle of the best game of his career, and once against SDSU when they were trailing). Do you know how many times they threw 50 times or more last season? Once. Gabbert's last four attempted pass totals from the regular season: 26, 26, 25, 30. Let alone the fact that a healthy chunk of Mizzou's passes (wild guess: 5 to 10 per game) might as well be running plays because they're EXTREMELY high percentage passes up against the sideline in the flats.

This "gimmick" offensive scheme- the spread- won two NC's at Florida, got Oklahoma into several NC games, and is pretty much universally recognized as NOT a gimmick.

With all due respect, a lot of your posts in this thread essentially read as if you've only read message boards where people [expletive] and moan about Pinkel, but not actually watched any of the games. As if there's the pre-set narrative about Pinkel and you're gonna say whatever you can to prove that it's right... when the games and the stats and just about everything else besides angry fan commentary say otherwise.
