Three gimmes? I'll grant you McNeese. San Diego St. went 9-4. Miami of Ohio also went 9-4 and won their conference. Mizzou's strength of schedule was something like 29th in the country.

One gimme, which every single school in the country has. As for conference strength, the Sagarin ratings had the Big XII as the 3rd best conference in the country, behind the SEC and the Pac 10.

As for Iowa, you aren't giving them nearly enough credit. They were a pre-season top 10 team that returned a ton of seniors from last year's top 10 team. Three or four plays go a different way in their season, and they would've been 10-2 themselves. Even with the suspensions, that team had plenty of talent.

Last but not least, Mizzou still pretty much freakin' won the game, save for one dumb play by Gabbert (not sure how that's Pinkel's fault) and one really [expletive] horrible missed call on the holding (again... not Pinkel's fault). GP's execution wasn't perfect, but there were a lot of reasons they lost that game. And Pinkel's execution is like #8 on the list.

Last night was frustrating- believe me, nobody is more pissed off about losing in THAT way to THAT [expletive] horrible [expletive] state and University than I am. But let's not start making [expletive] up to fit a pre-set narrative.

Much of what I said about Iowa in the previous post...

As for the officiating, it was bad all night, for both teams. Mizzou got an extra yard on a 3rd down spot early in the first quarter, there was clear PI on McNutt in the 2nd quarter, they called holding on Reisner when the ball was in the air (umm,. that's PI guys), there was a clear hold on the Hyde INT return (and I'm not even remotely convinced Iowa scores if they don't get the 6 on the pick, with how poorly Stanzi was playing), and there was a poor 3rd down spot for Iowa that shoulda been 4th down but were given the 1st.

As for the reversed completion call (which I know you didn't mention), all I'll say about that is, if you're making the argument that their wasn't enough evidence to over-turn the call on the field, then I'll just say you were crazy lucky that the call on the field was a completion to begin with, because I saw him re-adjusting his hands about 3 times over the course of the catch on replay. (and the angle they showed with the zoom in showed the nose clearly hitting the ground, which I think was the angle that made them reverse it, not the original angle on the field).

I did say Mizzou can look dazzling. Dazzling....

Pinkel has the formula down pat for exactly the type of seasons they've been having. Beat all the teams they should -mesmerizing bad college Ds with their offense. Lose one they shouldn't. Win one tough game. Lose one tough game to a D that has a defense.

It's a pattern - not necessarily a bad one -and typical to the stupid NCAA system which affords teams no margin for error.

So....be a favorite in 10-11 games during the 12 game season and then have a tough time with better teams? I don't get what your point is. Having a tougher time against better defenses doesn't mean your 10-win season is hollow.

I just hate they lost to Iowa. Now all those moron Hawkeye fans and Big 10 Rules crowds have more fuel...

Gabbert looked like Peyton Manning for 80 plays, and 1 Tarvaris Jackson like play loses the game. Frustrating. And Moe's catch, was a catch. Horrible they overturned that.

It sure looked like Moe caught it.

Gabbert did play well for a college player -they do [expletive] up occassionally-especially in an offense where you throw 57 passes.

If you Iowa fans can't admit that after the first quarter the Hawkeyes got dominated I don't know what to say. Sometimes you win games like that. No defense is designed to give up 32 first downs and 500+ yards.

All I can tell you is watch game tape of every Iowa game this year..

The short intermediate routes are ALWAYS open, fortunately for Iowa, the Big Ten teams almost always establish and continue to try and establish the run...Big 12 teams don't...(as evidence by what Mizzou did to them last night)

They almost rarely (if EVER) make defensive adjustments over the course of a game, and they didn't last night (except for a few blitzes on the last two drives)...

It's the way the defense is designed, I'm sorry, but that's a fact. Whether or not it was "domination" is up to you, but that's how the defense is set up to play. Stop the big play, tighten up inside the 20. Been that way for YEARS.

Really? That sounds completely made up. What football team doesn't make adjustments at all during the course of the game?
