I agree, in fact the ref didn't even call a penalty until after it was clear that Backes was hurt
The same crap happens at all levels of hockey. I think it is an extremely difficult sport to officiate. I think they need stiffer penalties and need to ramp them up even higher for 2nd and 3rd offenses.
In a minor league playoff game we had a guy take the helmet off of a player during a fight, then swing it and hit him with it in the back (looked like he tried to hit him in the head, but he ducked). The guy got a fine but no suspension. But what do you fine a guy that makes $400/week, anyway?

It's been a very entertaining series. I'm rooting for the Blues and I think they have outplayed the Blackhawks to this point. They can't let that game 3 demoralize them. Keep playing their game and the results will come. They technically don't even need to win 1 game in Chicago to win the series, but it sure would be nice to give themselves a cushion.
That was such a disappointing game, not only because of the weak goal Miller let in that essentially was the game winner, but also because the Blues played the best hockey they have played in a long long time in that third period, and have nothing to show for it.
I kept checking the top of the screen thinking maybe I had missed the Blues being on a power play because the spent so much time in the offensive zone. Could not ask for better play from the Blues in the third, but Crawford was just too good to beat last night.
My original thought before this series started was that this was a 7 game series. I hope its only a 5 game series with stealing on in Chi-Town tomorrow night and winning the clincher at home Friday. I still think it could go 7 though.

Agreed. They should get Paajarvi in the lineup and put him with Berglund and Steen. That would certainly help the offense. Oshie's clearly banged up and Ott is always a step behind they play in the offensive zone. Paajarvi looked good in the second half of the season and showed some chemistry with Berglund.
C'mon boys....this is the game which will either swing the series into our favor or theirs. A win tonight & I think the Blues have this series. On the other hand I think a Blues loss here could lead to a repeat of last years debacle.
I'd like to win tonight, but I don't think this will be a repeat of last year. It depends on how the game goes, of course, but if Miller has a great game, I'm feeling good for the rest of the series.
