You remember waiting through the entire [expletive] credits of a movie just to get to the part where they scroll through the songs featured in the movie, and hoping you can remember enough of the song you liked to be able to identify the song title/performer as listed in the credits? And how sometimes the credits wouldn't help, because they'd list who wrote the song, or give the performer's real names rather than their band/stage name, and thus you'd sit through like 8 minutes of credits just to find out what a song was and still come up empty?

Yeah, now we have the internet for that.

I'm just the right age where I was probably part of the last group of kids to record songs off the radio with a cassette tape. I remember waiting and waiting for specific Eminem/Nelly songs to come on. Then Napster blew up and I haven't looked back.

It's kinda a meme for Gen X'ers (hello, me), but it goes something like "You're pissed about kids discovering Kate Bush from Stranger Things, but your generation learned of the existence of Bohemian Rhapsody from Wayne's World."

Natural Born Killers turned me onto some different music/genres when I was back in high school.

Same. Specifically, it introduced me to Leonard Cohen.

In addition, The Commitments introduced me to Wilson Picket, Aretha Franklin, and Otis Redding. I was at least a little familiar with Aretha and Otis before that movie, but Wilson Pickett was new to me. That soundtrack helped me to a deeper dive into the original versions and other covers. Man, I still love that soundtrack.

I was barely old enough for cassettes too. I remember waiting for a good song to come on. My first tape I recorded Low Rider. I think it started like 10 seconds into the song.

What kind of nerd likes Explosions in the Sky?

Not sure if you're too familiar with Rhett Miller overall, but I actually proposed to Mrs. Zeus in part using some lyrics from his song "Question" from his truly excellent main band, the Old 97s. Question fits into that same emo-adjacent "guy and his guitar" mode of "Come Around," but the Old 97s are a rollicking alt-country group. For further Old 97s studies, begin here:

It's an underappreciated song from a more underappreciated TV show, but the final episode of Season 1 of "Raising Hope" used "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros perfectly IMO.
