Along the same lines, the weirdest one I have is learning about Vashti Bunyan’s “Train Song” from this NFL ad.

And I’m glad kids are finding Kate Bush. I’ve never been sick of that song despite having it on my mega-playlist for years. It’s like Dreams by Fleetwood Mac. Not been tested as much but I think it’s unkillable.

Weirdly, there was a period in the mid 2000s where the NFL's ad agency put some damn good music in their ads. One featured Morrissey's classic "Every Day Is Like Sunday," which is hilarious because he wasn't talking about [expletive] football, the very next line is "every day is silent and gray." Anyway, another NFL ad from that era introduced me to a truly kickass song, "Breakaway" by the Detroit Cobras.

I loved the music from Breaking Bad. Even made a fairly comprehensive playlist that apparently has been relegated to the ash bin of history. I thought it was on Spotify but can't find it. Not in pre-streaming iTunes library either. Oh well. The song that started it was this one.

I'll jump into this thread with 2 entries.

1. This will make @heyzeus smile, as it's a 90s reference. I discovered The Sundays' version of "Wild Horses" on an episode of Buffy. (Yes, I watched that show... because... Buffy was super hot and SMG was/is my age. We were supposed to be together, Sarah!! Stupid Freddie Prinze, Jr.) I knew The Rolling Stones version, but I liked The Sundays' version much better. It had such a deeper feel to it.

2. I discovered Albert Collins via "Adventures in Babysitting". What a funny dude!
And I will die on the hill that that movie has the greatest soundtrack never released.

i always *liked* radiohead, but they were never in my rotation, so i discivered Fake Plastic Trees via Garden State.

500 Days of Summer has a similar soundtrack which is very good imo

S4 of Stranger Things is getting all the buzz for introducing the youths to Kate Bush and Metallica, but they're use of this Moby dirge from the 90s really is wonderful.

Me too.

I remember this very well. Kids leaving a lame party and driving around in their convertible Cabriolet at night. Right? I doubt I’ve seen it since it aired on television. Beautiful storytelling.

The whole way I started listening to music besides rap, which was my entire diet as an adolescent, was becoming obsessed with "Layla" in Goodfellas.
