Re: Cronos passed away
So shocked to hear this news. Like others, I met Paul in STL years ago and was also his FB friend. I know his career was flourishing around the same time he didn't post here as frequently. I'm so sorry your life was cut tragically short, Paul. You were a good man.

I always really liked Paul. He was incredibly sensitive and thoughtful with all of the good and bad that comes with that. Count me among the people that hung out with him a few times over the years, and I definitely woke up on his couch in Chicago with a splitting headache once about a decade ago. This is really a very bad year.

Managing social media pages and internet passwords has become an important part of wills. Paul evidently notified someone who could change his Facebook page to a legacy account, for instance.mikechamp wrote: ↑August 14 20, 9:03 amI just held my own personal moment of silence for Cronos. So long for just a while, good sir.
His passing makes me wonder: How would anyone on here know if I passed on? I don't think anyone would.
In all seriousness, I should probably write a letter to be read upon my passing that helps my survivors wrap up/shut down my e-mails/social accounts. That seems like the right thing to do.
I do know that one previous poster--Knot Hole Gang Vet--arranged for his family to alert the forum when he passed. And Theosqua did research on Lazarus, an elderly veteran who posted here in the early years and had stopped posting when he became too ill, and then had died.
My wife knows vaguely about this site--it's certainly not a secret--and I've set aside internet passwords for my many accounts should I die unexpectedly and she needs to access information to pay bills, or even find the book project I'm working on. But I haven't asked her to log on to alert anyone should I die or become incapacitated. I should go ahead and do that.

Mrs. Rad knows about GRB and has met a few of you - including Paul. She took the news of his passing hard. He was just a few years older than our daughter who also has a psych degree. He and I talked about the Cards and beer but the two of them had a deeper conversation about psychology and life in general. I just kept the beer flowing. She knows how to access GRB so you will hear from her when my time has come.

Please do write a letter like that. It will help the people trying to sort through your life and it will help folks like us on the internet find out about you. I'm apart of a small group of sim racers who over the last 15 years went from internet friends spread all across the country to a tight group of real friends. We've lost three members since we started. Two had told their family to let us know if something happens. We were so thankful as it helped us get organized and have our own little memorial for them. One of the guys didn't not have any such thing and in a really weird way we all found out through reddit of all places he had passed. He was also a motorcycle racer and had an accident. We literally found out he died through a news article.mikechamp wrote: ↑August 14 20, 9:03 amI just held my own personal moment of silence for Cronos. So long for just a while, good sir.

Anyway, I've dealt with death a lot. You need a few things ready to go. You need instructions for what you want when you die, a will, a letter to your family and friends telling them what they mean to you. (you can not fathom how wonderful this is to have for the ones you leave behind.) Then you need a letter for tying up the loose ends like telling GRB you were smothered to death in Las Vegas by four hookers while doing blow off their rear, or however you go.

Still shocked Cronos is gone. Can you imagine being a perfectly healthy yr. old guy in your 30s, getting an acute case of pancreatitis and being gone two weeks later?

It’s been too long since I chatted with Cronos on gchat about life and baseball and relationships, and now I won’t get to again. I hope his family is ok. His parents must be heartbroken.

Never met him but certainly understood his frustration sometimes.
