This week brings a prime specimen of football voodoo. No. 1 Oklahoma will play at No. 11 Missouri, a rivalry in only the loosest definition of the word.

OU is 7-0 against Mizzou under Bob Stoops, winning the games by an average of 24.7 points.
Sooners coach Bob Stoops is 7-0 against the Tigers, with an average margin of victory of 24.7 points. Missouri has not beaten Oklahoma since 1998, the year before Stoops arrived.

Zoom out to 1947, the beginning of the Bud Wilkinson era. In the past 63 seasons, only one Oklahoma coach has lost more than once to Missouri. Barry Switzer, who has the highest winning percentage (.837) of any FBS coach in the past 50 years, went 14-2 against the Tigers.
Though I'm really hoping for a good game, the above explains why I'm not optimistic.

While I met him once, and he went to school with Franklin, I haven't really followed Darrell Williams like I do James. Is he starting for OU or even on the depth chart? In fact, did he even get in with his grades?

There's too much greatness in there to mention. Every time I read it a different part kills me, usually the stuff like

/misreads two-point conversion
/Alexander goes back to making sandwiches and immediately throwing them away in front of a crowd of homeless people
/signs up Mike Alden's e-mail address to receive Ann Taylor LOFT e-mails

Former Oklahoma defensive tackle and current Tampa Bay Buc Gerald McCoy predicts a beatdown Saturday, when the Sooners travel to Columbia to face the Missouri Tigers.

McCoy took exception to the Sooners being scheduled as the Tigers' homecoming opponent. The "honor" traditionally is bestowed on a team that can provide an easy victory.

"That's a given. It's Oklahoma," McCoy said on a conference call with Rams beat writers. "The reason I know we're going to win is because it's like a slap in the face to schedule your homecoming with us coming into town. It's like 'we're going to blow them out.'"

McCoy was the first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, whom the Rams will face Sunday.
Would be nice for Missouri to go 2-0 this weekend, but truthfully I'm just hoping Miz keeps it close.

Listening to Pete Woods talk about the '76 season on the radio, I had to look it up myself. What a terrible/great season!!

Date Missouri's Ranking Opponent Opponent's Ranking Result

9/11 NR at USC (8) 46-25 W
9/18 (6) Illinois NR 6-31 L
9/25 NR at Ohio State (2) 22-21 W
10/2 (12) North Carolina NR 24-3 W
10/9 (9) at Kansas State NR 28-21 W
10/16 (7) Iowa State NR 17-21 L
10/23 (17) at Nebraska (3) 34-24 W
10/30 (10) at Okla. St. (16) 19-20 L
11/6 (16) Colorado (14) 16-7 W
11/13 (11) at Oklahoma (14) 20-27 L
11/20 (19) Kansas NR 14-41 L

The Tigers start off the season beating #8 USC at the Coliseum. Follow that up by getting killed by probably the best (5-6) Illinois team of the 70s. Then win at #2 Ohio State, follow that up with a nice little win streak then lose to Iowa freaking State, beat #3 Nebraska in Lincoln, keep it close in Norman then get crushed by KU.

Probably the WTFiest season in the history of NCAA football.
