nd, what about the part where Te'o really played up the dead girlfriend angle even prior to finding out it was a hoax, the girlfriend that his teammates knew wasn't actually his girlfriend and so did he?

He's at the very least a shameless self promoter as well as the most humble guy you could meet.

So what is Schaap's incentive to play along?

Access to players. It why ESPN filters, spins, and even ignores stories. They want continued access to the players because it means higher ratings. And what makes me so mad is that 75% of the public gets their sports information almost exclusively through that network so they can get away with it. It is a shame what that network has become.

Last night I was enjoying a nice NBA double header (if I wanted to watch the Bulls, I had to watch ESPN). I knew I should have turned off the damn network right after the Bulls game, but decided to watch the Thunder v. Mavs. That's when the BS started raining down from the interview, spun in the light most favorable to T'eo - failing to point out inconsistencies and holes in his story. An interview arraigned by his agents (at 11pm on a Friday night), attended by an attorney and that wouldn't be aired. Objective journalism at its best. ESPN has already edited their story with no explanation why. CAA must not have liked the way something was reported...again, journalistic integrity at its finest.

It's been pretty well established that Notre Dame cares a lot more about a football player who is exposed as a serial liar than a female student who accuses a football player of rape.

I don't care if people hate Notre Dame. I don't care if people joke about this. Some of them have been funny and I've even cracked a couple. I don't even care if people are pissed at ND for past mistakes they have made because there have been plenty. I don't like when people spread misinformation, intentionally or not, to support their assertions. It's not hard to know the facts. They're all out there.

I didn't really want to waste any time looking it up. Perhaps it was worded....incorrectly. To be honest, of all the trollish things I said, I'm surprised that was the one that upset you. But, come on, I've done so good at not blasting notre dame up til that point.

Apparently, a few years ago, he decided he was going to pull off the most complicated internet hoax of all time, in order to increase his publicity, you know, just in case he was in the running for a heisman trophy his senior year.

And we all know, the #2 rated prospect coming out of high school, going to a small school like Notre Dame, is not going to get any publicity at all, so a scheme like this was definitely necessary to get his name out there.

So he slow plays this relationship for 2 years, and just before his senior season when he knows he is gonna make it big, he plays the story for all its worth and his plan works perfectly! Except for the heisman part.

Until those kids at deadspin ruin his whole plan. That's ok though, Teo has got Notre Dame to get in on his hoax with him, and Jeremy Schapp as well. With them in on the conspiracy and willing to lie for him, all of this will work out.

And we all know, the #2 rated prospect coming out of high school, going to a small school like Notre Dame, is not going to get any publicity at all, so a scheme like this was definitely necessary to get his name out there.

He got far more publicity than anyone else on his team. And he finished second in the Heisman voting, which is quite rare for a defensive player. If Johnny Manziel had not torched Alabama Te'o might have won.

People who believe the conspiracy theory at this point are almost as naive as Te'o himself.

And I'm not a Notre Dame fan, but it's also pretty silly to keep implying that they are the most corrupt university ever. All universities have their warts. I don't really get the Notre Dame hatred.
