I would say that MU needs to take more shots in a medium range, especially along the sidelines. I think we use the deep ball enough. You're definitely right about the bubble screens, though. I have no problem with using short passes as a running game, but Yost really needs to get less predictable with how he uses screens, and throw in some crossing patterns and quick outs.robbotis wrote:I think if Mizzou does the following, they could have 10 wins:Faceman wrote:I think that the gameplan for this game was different than it will be going forward. Illinois has apparently learned not to get into a shootout with Mizzou, and that was their strategy. Personally, as an Illinois fan, I liked the approach. Keep Mizzou's offense off the field, out of rhythm (as much as possible), and try to keep the momentum from Mizzou.cardsfansince82 wrote:Illinois was fired up and ready to play early. The biggest thing might be that first drive that took almost a whole quarter that shortened the game and delayed Mizzou getting in rhythm. Overall Mizzou is about what I expected, minus a little more explosiveness. Defense is a little better. Hopefully they can look for JJ and Egnew down the field more. Illinois is going to get that kid killed if they ask him to run all over the place like that every week.JL21 wrote:I can't tell if Illinois has improved, Mizzou played like [expletive], or Mizzou isn't as good as we hoped.
I've gone to that game 6 times now and it's never, ever, been a "neutral site" game. It's easily pro-Mizzou, and you have to treat that game as a road game if you are Illinois. As soon as Mizzou gets a lead, they play '99 Rams with a lead style defense.
I was happy with the effort, and impressed with some of Mizzou's players (Moe and that DB who made the last pick). Overall I'm not sure what to make of Mizzou. I could live without some of their fans though (thanks for the jack and coke from the upper deck, jerkoff - yes that was a roughing the passer on the first Illini series of the game).
1. Run the freaking ball, and not out of Shotgun motion garbage
2. Play Pass D like they did versus IL
3. Take more shots down field. Bubble screens to WR are not needed 10 times a game.

Re: Mizzou football 2010
Mizzou uses the bubble screen as a perimeter run game. Internally they don't even count the bubble screens in Gabbert's statistics. With that understanding, the only thing left to do is consistently defend the pass, according to this list.robbotis wrote:I think if Mizzou does the following, they could have 10 wins:

Gabbert already has the NFL QB haircut.
Mizzou has a great line up this year, I hope everything will go well in all their games. Can you please post photo of Gabbert here? It would be great to see his new NFL QB haircut.

It's only McNeese St. and blah blah blah but judging from the first half stats, Mizzou is whomping the [expletive] out of them with dizzying efficiency. Gabbert 16 of 18, Henry Josey with something like 4 carries for 108 yards and 3 TD's, TJ Moe with a billion catches, some turnovers forced, a safety...

McNeese St is in the Top 10 of the FCS, IIRC. James Madison and NDSU are in the Top 25. This should count for something.JL21 wrote:It's only McNeese St. and blah blah blah but judging from the first half stats, Mizzou is whomping the [expletive] out of them with dizzying efficiency. BTW, here's the list to the FCS rankings.

Franklin's in now. Gabbert finished 26 for 31 with (IIRC) 220 yards passing. Moe finished at 10 catches for 79 yards, and Josey had 7 carries for 115 yards. He's also the first true freshman at Mizzou to get 3 TD's in a game since Corby Jones in 1995.
The ground game has some 200 yards and it wasn't even the fourth quarter when I checked.

Re: Mizzou football 2010
Mizzou was locked in on the idea of taking care of business against a lesser foe. That was a problem in the Baylor and Navy games last season.
Youth/experience issues cost MU a win against Nebraska.
I was more than a little concerned about receivers for this year. Not anymore. Moe and Egnew have stepped up nicely.
Best thing about TJ Moe is that he is a football player. Nice to see a tough guy at WR for a change.

So far anyway, they've answered just about every question in the positive. I'd like to see some sort of deep threat or YAC monster step forward, but that's just about it. I saw this over at RMN:
The last time McNeese State was beaten this badly, it was a NFL-packed roster of Miami Hurricanes blowing the Cowboys away.
Missouri handed McNeese its worst defeat since 2000 with a 50-6 stomping at Faurot Field Saturday night. Only a fourth-quarter touchdown pass from Cody Stroud to Wes Briscoe was enough to prevent it from being the second 50-point loss in McNeese history.

Re: Mizzou football 2010
Yeah, McNeese State is a highly thought of FCS team, on par with someone like James Madison. That's a great part about the Mizzou offense, when they have the athletic advantage, they are going to torch you. There's a reason Mizzou's won 19 straight non-conference games, and they haven't lost one since Daniel took the reins.
I was only able to see a little bit of highlights, and came to this conclusion: Henry Josey may be the successor to Maclin in my "He's so fast he makes fast people look unfast!" exclamations.
