If Rose's history at coming back from injuries is a measuring stick, more likely to be 10-12 months.
TWIST THE KNIFE SOCNORB! Twist it!
Sorry. The last year and a half has just been incredibly frustrating. The Bulls were on the fringe of being a championship contender with a young, exciting team. Now Rose is probably going to be 26 years old before he plays again.......... and you have to figure his confidence going forward is going to be a serious issue. They're basically spinning their wheels, and on the verge of looking at another rebuild with the hopes of winning another lottery ticket like Rose.
Ugh.
Not only this, but on the precipice of what could possibly be one of the best NBA draft classes ever, they find themselves with a roster with no championship potential and a single-minded coach that are way too good to tank in an abominable eastern conference. They couldn't get involved in the chase for a top 5 pick if they wanted to.
Another tidbit on meniscus tears - the MRI often doesn't show the entire deal. Until you go in there with the scope you don't know for sure what you are dealing with. So it's almost not possible to say we will do x until you get there and see what is going on. You go in with a plan - scrape and clean and/or repair where possible. But we won't know for sure until after the surgery.
And that's how one of the most likable stories in the NBA became a depressing tale of injury, woe, front office v head coach squabbling and how a hometown superstar turned good became an albatross contract.
Wow it's going to be tough for me to follow the NBA this year. Last year there was hope early in the year that if the team stayed afloat they could get Rose back and make a run in the playoffs. While that didn't happen, it kept peoples interest in the team early while they were treated to a very entertaining season with a fun and likeable team, and by the time it became apparent Rose wasn't coming back the team was still doing some great things, most notably knocking off Miami during their win streak.
But this year?
That ship sailed. Jimmy Butler's development and Carlos Boozer's under rated play and Joe's hustle can only go so far.
The Rose injury makes me sick to my stomach. It's hard to call anything in sports that doesn't involve death or a career-ending injury a tragedy but I think this is pretty close. I wish the Bulls would just dump Deng and Boozer now and start the rebuild but that would mean even more empty seats and no way Reinsdorf signs off on that.

Why wouldn't he sign off on that? He's signed off on it before. Bulls attendance is relatively bullet proof.
Both knee injuries were completely non contact. He didn't land awkwardly because someone knocked him off balance, he didn't have someone fall on his knee and cave it in sideways, he just jumped and then landed and then something horrible happened.
