A couple of years ago I had a fairly large dog charge at me from across the street. I wasn't going to run. Especially not in my own yard. I was like "whelp, I guess we're gonna do this!?!" I started yelling at the dog to get the f*** out of here, and other crazy ramblings. In hindsight, I probably looked insane if any of my neighbors saw it happening. LOL... But I was fully prepared to go with this dog. Luckily, he thought better of it and backed off, went slinking off between the houses. Never saw him again.
I remember when I was seven and a Great Dane saw me from across the street and ran for me. I didn't know what to do, so I just ran for my backyard.

I was on a hike this morning and thought about if I came across a mountain lion, if I was ready to fight it. I felt pretty confident that I could win.
Did you see the video that went viral recently of the guy that startled the mountain lion on a hike and they had a stand-off for several minutes??? That was intense. I'm not so sure I'd want to try an angry/hungry puma.

I'd say a plurality of healthy adults will have a fighting chance against the rat, house cat, goose, medium sized dog. Maybe I'd also include the large dog and eagle in that.
The other animals, no chance. This stipulates no weapons, which I take to mean a human couldn't pick up a nearby rock, stick, whatever, so we're talking hand-to-hand combat. Maybe you could get a foot on the cobra quick enough to stop it from biting you ... maybe.
The other animals would kill most humans hand-to-hand. People would be surprised how violent chimps can get. They are much stronger than humans and have huge teeth. Chimps have been known to attack people and literally rip their faces off, rip their hands off their arms. No human is going to beat a chimp mano a mano.

This is all correct. An athletic and physically trained man (a JC Shutoutesque man) could probably take one wolf in a closed octagon type environment, but that's not really how wolves operate. A chimp is physically superior and more violent than a human in every capacity. I am terrified of chimps.
Seriously though, a bear would be tough but they are slow enough that, with a weapon, it’s conceivable.
Buddy, I'm not sure you know what Bears are. Grizzlies top out at 35 MPH and are incredibly quick in a sprint. Their vital organs are protected by an incredibly tough hide, incredibly think musculature and fat, and incredibly dense bones. There isn't a single scenario that involves a human beating a Grizzly bear in unarmed combat. To even begin discussing one-on-one armed combat, you're going to need not just a gun, but an extremely high powered gun with a high grain content ammo to power the bullet through their flesh. Their skulls are essentially impossible to penetrate with all but the most powerful rifles, so you're going to have to aim for the body, which means you have to know bear anatomy and be a great shot under immense pressure (a wild predator the size of a minivan sprinting at you at 35mph).
I could buy some of these more powerful animals being deterred by a good/lucky punch in the face, but I conceive of this being like an arena fight. So if there's nowhere to go and they're agitated, then forget it.
I think I could take the eagle though it would scratch the hell out of me and I might die later.
Medium sized dog is tricky. Wide range of dogs there.
This was a somewhat heated debate amongst friends about a decade ago which is another way saying I've thought about it a lot. I think Adrain Foster (sp?) said he could kill a wolf and it was brought up again....
Given it's a fight to the death in a prepared manner (ie, not a surprise attack) and in those animals natural settings, I feel pretty confident against a king cobra and everything below with the caveat the setting for a dog is not a wide open field, even then it's questionable. For a large dog, let's say a german sheppard, those things are fast and have a powerful bite, but they're giving up 100ish pounds and only have their bite as a manner to attack which just so happens to be completely exposed.
I'd be more worried about an eagle ripping my eye out with its talons than a dog biting me. But, that's just me. Wolves are trickier because they're so damn big.
