The fact is that Sammy doesn't matter any more. Sure he had a nice little moment last night thanks to a fat pitch, but he's not a factor, or won't be by July. This little reprise is the last grain of sand in the hourglass.

I've got nothing against the guy, and I'm not sure why other people do. He doesn't have Bonds' attitude, and we have less evidence against him than McGwire. The worst things are he used to be a Cub and got caught with a corked bat. as far as numbers go, most everything I've read suggests cork doesn't help. He tried to cheat, but he joins an illustrious group of players in that respect. As far as being a former Cub, I don't care. I have no problem with Derek Lee or Aramis Ramirez today.

I still dislike him, for reasons other than baseball.

Well, it doesn't sound good, but are people overstating his promises? I have a hard time criticizing people who are already giving to charity for not giving enough. Or even criticizing them for not giving at all. It's really their choice, and they may have their reasons.

If he actually made promises that's different, of course.

It's just another indication of what I think he really is as a person. (to quote Holden Caulfield) A huge phoney.

Bonds may be a jerk, but at least he doesn't try to act like he's not.

Don't like him. But, I praise him for separating himself from the Cubs organization and am not surprised that, subsequently, he is having success.

I think Sammy is a good story for baseball and I want to see him succeed. I wouldn't call Sammy a stand up guy but he isn't a jerk like Bonds and he is at least entertaining. Granted he has 10 rbi's and 3 homers, but his OPS is like 655. But I guess not many people are really having good OPS years. But I find it hard not to root for the guy. He and McGwire did a lot for the game and Sosa did abandon the Cubs in his last game. He gets points for that.

That's when I really became a fan. Not so much because I'm a bandwagon fan, but because I'm young and wasn't old enough to really get into baseball earlier than that time.

I hope Sammy does very well. Hell, the way this offense is going, we could use him right about now.
