Re: NBA 10-11
The constant changing of the guard is part of what makes the NBA great. Unlike baseball, we want to tear down NBA statues. We pay fealty to Jordan only until someone greater comes along. We thought that could be LeBron and have been disappointed. It's not hagiography, it's being an NBA fan.

We're already sounding the death knells on LeBron's greatness? Honestly, I suppose what annoys me more than anything is the baseless speculative psychoanalysis that dominates conversation of the two. I blame Bill Simmons and his "alpha dog"/"The Secret" nonsense which allows him to run wild with opinions and fall back on that stuff as a catch-all defense. This is the kind of stuff that most of us hate in baseball. It might mean more in basketball, but we still have no idea what these players are thinking, which makes it just as pointless imo.

Re: NBA 10-11
I said we've been disappointed. Not that it can't happen. There are still plenty of things LeBron can do on a basketball court that Jordan could never do. If you think the conversation is pointless then stay out of it. For instance, i thought jims comment was silly and probably wrong, so i didnt say anything. Largely people will believe what they want to believe because so much of Jordan's "Jordanness" has been created looking back at his career while so much of LeBrons "LeBronness" has emanated from what fans want their top guy to be. We project our ideas of the alpha on to a player and when he fails to exhibit those qualities, we criticize. Unfortunately for LeBron and people like you, basketball is less statistically quantifiable than baseball, personality and intangible qualities are a part of the conversation and legacy as myth are a part of NBA culture.

Also we all should realize that Bill Simmons, though talented & entertaining, is also kind of a dip [expletive].

LeBron is ungodly talented, and one of my very favorite players to watch. I don't know what's wrong with his ankle, and thrill got one thing right about my comment - silly. But with a little jab, because from what I can tell if I was in a game 7 down 1 with 10 seconds to play and had a choice of LeBron or MJ, I'll take MJ.

fwiw, I'm just tired of LeBron period. Which is the only reason I responded to jim's comment. He's an amazing basketball player and I hate him less than Kobe and he's just as much of a spectacle and a side show as Jordan was when he played but lord, enough is enough.
Also, he needs to stay off of twitter.
