Mini Rant - Christmas Ales. I understand there will be seasonality to beer -but it seems to be going overboard. Personally I don't have the money, time, and liver to mess with them and I sense they are crowding out some of the good beers from the beer aisles.

A bit of Hallloween before Santa swings by. Your buddies at iTAP will be peppering the taps with an assortment of scary, big and bad-assed beers. We have stored up some special selections for you.
Due to be on tap starting Tuesday Dec. 14th. Avery The Beast, Avery Mephistopheles, Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti, New Holland Dragon's Milk, Anchor Steam Old Foghorn Barleywine, Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, Founder's Nemesis, Left Hand Wake Up Dead, Left Hand Fade to Black, New Holland The Poet, North Coast Old Rasputin, Founder's Backwoods Bastard, Charleville Barleywine and a few more that we can conjure up.
Also, even with all these expensive selections we will drop the price of a sample paddle to $13. Most of these beers are rare and high in alcohol, so please plan ahead with a ride home.

I find that it's really hit or miss with those. I like the Schlafly one quite a bit. But most are generic and similar and unimaginative.Freed Roger wrote:Mini Rant - Christmas Ales. Re: The Beer Thread
Basically I just think I've been burnt too many times with beers trying to do too much. I don't want lemon, cinammon, pumpkin, peppermint, coffee, ... or any of that other [expletive] in my beer. Which is why I've more or less stopped buying anything I have not familiar with unless it's from a highly trusted source.
I'm just getting very conservative. Shiner Bock. Sam Adams Boston Lager, Budweiser, most New Glarus Products, most Capital Brewing Rroducts, a beer called Moose Drool, Peronni (sp? - Italian beer), Leffe Blonde Ale, Kwak, 1664 ... a few others including Shafly(sp?) I like but I can't get it very often. That's about it. Variety and I have confidence in those.

I just popped open a Schlafly Irish Extra Stout. It's blacker than Dick Chaney's soul. Not sure if I'm a fan or not. I'm leaning towards not.

That's a seasonal, right? You might have one of last year's batch unless they've already got them out for St. Patrick's day. I don't think the ABV is really high enough for it to benefit from cellaring. I enjoyed it when I had some last year, but it was definitely better closer to room temp than straight out of the fridge.JL21 wrote:I just popped open a Schlafly Irish Extra Stout. I had one of Two Brothers Northwind Imperial Stouts last night, and it was spectacular. 45 IBUs but it hides it really well, especially as it warms, and the mouthfeel is almost like a milkshake.

Ah, I was thinking it came out in February. Disregard that part of my comment then; that'll teach me to do my research beforehand.JL21 wrote:Per the website, it's released each year in January.

I'm becoming convinced that part of the reason I'm not enjoying it too much is that I used to [expletive] a girl who was crazier than a rat in a tin outhouse, and she had a tattoo of that thing on the label.

Subconscious, psychological beer contamination, huh? Dangerous stuff.JL21 wrote:Heh...redbirdjazzz wrote:Ah, I was thinking it came out in February. Disregard that part of my comment then; that'll teach me to do my research beforehand.JL21 wrote:Per the website, it's released each year in January.
