You know, I used to like IPA's a lot. But they started giving me heartburn, and now it's forced me to change my beer drinking. More often than not, I'll go for a brown or a stout than I will a Pale Ale or an IPA.jim wrote:I had lunch with my oldest boy and his new/serious g/f, and to be social I ordered what he had. Harpoon IPA. Had two of them actually - to be social you know.
But IPA's are just one of those things that you have to have the taste for, which I do not. They all taste so incredibly bitter to me. I wouldn't say in the general sense that it tasted bad, but compared to other beer it tasted bad. I just don't have the IPA tongue.

Re: The Beer Thread
I tried some IPA's the other night after my intro to beer snobbery. I tried the 'order something and decide if you like it'. I ordered two micro brews. I decided it wasn't that great.JL21 wrote:You know, I used to like IPA's a lot. But they started giving me heartburn, and now it's forced me to change my beer drinking. I have now decided I don't like IPA.

IPA's are acquired taste for me. Didn't use to like them - now I like many of them. They don't cause heartburn for me, but yes on the (ahem) toxic fumes.

Re: The Beer Thread
Outside of a few "big" IPA's like Dogfish 90 and Bell's Two Hearted I've started drinking more mellow IPAs. I think a few years ago brewers were trying to hop the living hell out of their IPAs to see who could make the hoppiest beer that was stilll drinkable. Now there seem to be more balanced ones on offer. I'm a big fan of the Two Brothers Resistance IPA. It's bright, a tad crisp and very well balanced.JL21 wrote:You know, I used to like IPA's a lot. I'm not a huge pale ale fan either but I had this the other day and thought it was awesome. Flying Dog Pale Ale.

Can you get Long Trail's IPA out there? It's a phenomenal .. revivalist?...IPA. I've been hopped out of the market right now as well, though I have hops growing in my back yard now and they smell incredible.

I love Pale Ales but can't stand IPAs. Mildly weird.

I know I like my fridge right now ... stocked with Budweiser, Corona, Capital Wisconsin Amber, New Glarus Spotted Cow/Fat Squirrel/Organic Revolution/Totally Naked/Stone Soup.
I like to brag about my fridge from time to time, usually after I've been to Wisconsin.
