Re: The Video Game Thread
Picked up FIFA World Cup Soccer 10 for PS3 for..
6 dollars and 21 cents.
It was on sale, plus 15% off, plus free shipping, plus a 30 dollar gift card.
Yay.

I'm having trouble seeing why this game was rated so highly. The graphics are mediocre, the frame rate is terrible, the controls are flat-out awful, and I've spent a good 3 hours on this game already and have gotten nowhere.
GTA4 is horribly overrated. Red Dead Redemption blows it out of the water.
Other good open world games are crackdown, red faction guerrilla and saints row 2.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is as awesome as the first. Very similar, but that's fine by me.

GTA 4 was too dark (visually) and they took a lot of the fun out of it. Both this and San Andreas you couldn't have a helicopter at your house. Just the airfield in San Andreas, but it wasn't quite the same. That was my favorite part of Vice City. I didn't like that you couldn't have more cars at your house, couldn't buy property, it's harder to find weapons, etc.... I think it all boils down to trying too hard to make it realistic.
I'm really hoping the change the location to London if they do another one.

I don't understand Rockstar's obsession with low brightness in their image. I had to pump up the contrast/brightness in Red Dead Redemption, too.

This was the best part of Vice City. They almost pulled off something as fun in San Andreas with the motorcycle jump from the mountaintop, but seeing as that was over 5 minutes to set up and would invariably end in death it just couldn't measure up.

This is true. I actually tried to play GTA 4 the other day on my 360 and was almost blinded when I started it up because I forgot how ridiculously high I had the brightness because you couldn't see [expletive] otherwise.clevername wrote:I don't understand Rockstar's obsession with low brightness in their image. I know I'm behind in the times a little, but I finally got Red Dead Redemption. I just got to the Mexico missions in single player. I'm really not much of a campaign type of guy. When I get games I almost always go straight to the online multiplayer part. But this campaign is pretty good. It doesn't make any sense that you'll have that Irish dude or that stupid old Wesley guy helping you out and then all the sudden he leaves and you have to go across the map to him (before I found out about the campsite thing). It's kind of unrealistic with that stuff.
Religion seems to be playing a bigger part in this one than in any of the other GTA games. Like having Marsten listening to the chick on the train in the beginning. I thought it was funny that a nun saw me murder someone and I paid her off to not tell on me though.

Okay, anyone own Crackdown 2 yet? I went out to impulsebuy it the other day and it was sold out of both the stores I checked. I think there's an ebgames around but I didn't care enough to figure out where it is. I hear it's pretty much more of the same, but I enjoyed Crackdown quite a bit and FF13 was the last game that really piqued my interest at all and I've talked myself out of that for now.

I remember after beating crackdown I went online to immediately check if there was a sequel underway. Heard there wasn't; awesome that it just came out.
