Re: The Video Game Thread
Hadn't bought any new games since Dragon Age and I had a stockpile of Best Buy gift cards so I went on a buying spree last week.
FF XIII - I'm only 5 hours in but it's really good. I agree with TFG's 8/10 rating. It's so smooth it's hard to find a place to stop despite numerous save points. I think the biggest drawbacks are it's not much of an RPG in the truest sense and it's SUPER linear.
COD: MW2 - Online multiplayer is soooo fun despite me being horrible. I'm up to lvl 12 and have a few things unlocked. The thing holding me back most isn't unlockables, it's that I suck compared to the other guys. I'm getting better though. I'm not near a 1.0 kill/death ratio but I'm trending that direction.
MLB 2010: The Show - Holy cow the franchise mode is in-depth. I started up my Cardinals franchise with the intent of fulfulling my armchair GM dreams and making all kinds of moves. Little did I know that I'd spend hours just looking at different menus and options and rosters and so on. I only actual game I've played so far was the season opener and lost 7-4 to the Reds. This game is beautiful. By far the slickest baseball game I've played since MVP 2005.
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - Haven't even taken the wrapper off yet. Looking forward to it though. After I finish this one I'll move on to U2.

RangerPrime. You (any any other PS3 owners) should add me and we can kill d00dz.
I finally reached the 1.0 kill/death ratio in a match last night. In fact I sat around the .8 mark all night. I'm sucking less and less. I think being a lot less kamikaze helps.

part of getting better with mw2 is just knowing the maps, where people tend to go etc.

I haven't read through the whole thread, so I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but anybody that has The Show and wants to do a franchise should download the OS Full Minors rosters from SportsConnect. A group of people at a different message board work together and create all of the real minor league players for every team. They are pretty easy to find on SportsConnect, just sort by the ratings and they are always on the top.letsgocards89 wrote:

So I know I'm incredibly late to the party, but I just picked up GTA IV greatest hits for about $15 off ebay, and figured I'd check it out to see what the hype was about.
I'm having trouble seeing why this game was rated so highly. The graphics are mediocre, the frame rate is terrible, the controls are flat-out awful, and I've spent a good 3 hours on this game already and have gotten nowhere.

You're right -- from a technical aspect, the game isn't that impressive; I think it's important to remember that the game was released over two years ago, though, relatively early in the lifespan of the next-gen consoles. I think you see that with every console -- quality and performance of games increases alongside the age of a system.Cronos69 wrote:So I know I'm incredibly late to the party, but I just picked up GTA IV greatest hits for about $15 off ebay, and figured I'd check it out to see what the hype was about.

Anyway, here are my overall thoughts on GTA4: the whole "sandbox" thing is getting old, just because it's been done so many times. I'm not saying they should change the format, but what once was novel (aimlessly driving around doing whatever) simply doesn't have the appeal it once did. With that said, I think GTA4 is highly enjoyable. I used to play GTA games to do whatever I want with only ancillary concern for the story. This one was the exact opposite -- I was addicted to the story, and did very little free roam.
