Amazing Grace is awesome.

Anyone like fugues? These things are some of the coolest things to listen to. I have CD's for both books of Bach's WTC. You have to understand what a fugue is to really appreciate it, I'll put up a computer synthesized version first to get an idea of the mechanics of a fugue. The idea is that "voices" come in at different times, but they basically just repeat themselves throughout the piece. You will hear just one voice first, and that is the theme of 10 or so notes, and that will continue to repeat itself with some minor variation as other "voices" come in. By the time the 4-5 voices are playing together, if you listen hard and try to find one voice you can hear that first set of 10 notes, but if you listen to it as a whole it sounds completely different and in fact you would think it's impossible that there is any relation between the first 10 notes and what you are hearing. It's an acoustic allusion.

Notice that the first voice (purple) is repeated by the second voice (green). It's the same notes starting at a different pitch, the same tempo, and they both repeat. Then the 3rd comes in ... same theme just tweaked here and there. Notice at :39 the green (second voice) repeats itself. By that time the thing is so fused together that you would never guess that it's the same theme for all voices and repeating it.

And here is one of my fav's, don't know who this is playing it but she is pretty good. You have to focus on that first voice's theme, and then try to pick it out as the piece progresses. You should be able to easily here the first four voices based on the first as they come in.

Blows my mind that some simple little tune of 10-15 notes can be repeated over and over and with minor tweaks to the various voices can create something so complex.

edit ... btw, these things are a real [expletive] to play.
