Re: The Beer Thread
Thought I'd share. This makes Bell's Expedition Stout sound like Coors Light.
These days, beer nirvana is in a Munster, Ind., industrial park where a band of metal heads crafts what some experts say is some of the finest beer in the world.
If you want a taste of Three Floyds Brewing Co.'s finest flavor -- a thick, potent molasses-sweet stout -- your odds are never good. A bottle of Dark Lord -- a Russian-style imperial stout -- is available just once a year, on "Dark Lord Day," April 24.
Dark Lord was first brewed in 2004. It's Three Floyds founder Nick Floyd's response to a local brewer's boasting about his own stout. The beer is brewed with hundreds of pounds of Intelligentsia Black Cat espresso, Mexican vanilla and Indian dessert sugar that mingle to create an intense stout with a viscosity akin to that of, say, Quaker State motor oil. Dark Lord was rated in the 100th percentile -- that's the best -- of beers by Ratebeer.com, which also named Three Floyds the best brewery in the world for 2010.

Re: The Beer Thread
I went to an event last night featuring beers from Dogfish Head and Three Floyds. Both Sam Calogione (Dogfish) and Nick Floyd were there. At the end of the night Sam Calagione was drunk off his ass and dancing around like a madman.
Keep your eyes peeled for Three Floyd's Samurai Gazeebo Lager. It's amazing, especially as it's not what you'd call a "big" beer. It has the alcohol content and drinkability of a session beer, but there's just something about it that is completely delicious and satisfying. It'll make a dynamite summer beer, for sure.

Terrapin Hopsecutioner
Terrapin Beer Company
Never heard of this IPA nor it's Brewer and saw it got a 93 on ratebeer.com so I figured I'd give it a shot. A not overly hopped IPA w/ a lot of grapefruit/citrus tones. Comes in at a very surprising 7.2% abv because it doesn't taste like it at all. I almost don't believe it and want to put it to the test.

Re: The Beer Thread
I've always stayed away from vacation beers ... beers from places where people like to vacation because I always figured that people drink them for sentimental reasons more than taste. Corona is so over rated and priced imo, I'm sure many people buy it because of a nice trip to Cozumel and they have good memories. I have beer like that too, but unless it evokes some memories it's really not that good.
SO that is why I have always avoided Red Stripe from Jamaica. I figured the people that bought it were reliving some wonderful vacation, and it probably tasted like crap. Plus it's in a weird bottle that I haven't seen since the 1960's.
But I was wrong, I bought a 6 because it was on sale and I actually like it quite a bit. And, unlike alot of beer I have seen mentioned here, you will actually be able to find it in your local store.

I'm hitting the Blue Point Brewery Cask Ales Festival on Saturday on Long Island. I went last year and really enjoyed it even though it was held early February on a feezing, cold day. Fun part of last year was one of the brewers had a Blago Bastard Ale and they got a kick out of having a (former) FIB in attendance, I still had my Illinois driver's license in my wallet since moving. Very much looking forward to it.
