I just finished Denis Leary's Why We Suck on the plane ride back to NY over the weekend, and I must say I wasn't that impressed. I started reading Lawrence Ritter's The Glory of Their Times back in May during my honeymoon, and intend on getting back into that book. I've read the first few chapters, and I must admit that it is an absolutely fantastic baseball history-type book.

I asked for a few books over Christmas, but didn't get any of them. Namely Tom Tango's, The Book, as well as the late Robert Jordan's (and now Brandon Sanderson's) The Gathering Storm (Book 12 of The Wheel of Time). Since I didn't get either for Christmas, I suppose I will need to buy them now. Damnit.

And if you want to read a raunchy book full of sex, booze, and cursing, I would recommend Tucker Max's I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell. Reading it as a college fratboy was absolutely hilarious. As a working adult in the real world - not so much. I'd recommend you read it while you're young and single - if I tried pretty much any of the [expletive] discussed in that book with my wife, she'd probably divorce me before I'd have a chance to explain myself.

Among my other favorite books to read... Maus I and II, It Doesn't Take a Hero, The Tibbets Story, God's Debris, The Religion War (the sequel to God's Debris), and the entire Wheel of Time series (if you're into fantasy novels).

So I finished 'A Tale of Two Cities,' and it really is an excellent book. I'm fairly sour about the whole experience, however, because I was reading the endnotes the entire time as I didn't know the first thing about the French Revolution, and one of the notes gave away the ending.

ordered this last week, should be in soon

part of Nate Fick's story covers what happened in the HBO series Generation Kill and his character was definitely somebody I respected and am looking forward to hearing (reading) everything from his perspective

I minored in military history while at Rolla, and one of my professors (Dr. John McManus) for several classes has written multiple military books (we had to read some of them in his classes). I specifically recommend Deadly Sky and The Deadly Brotherhood. One of our courses was the history of WWII, and we had to read a novel from each war department: Navy, Marines, and Army/Air Force.

His books are generally very well written, and are usually primarily based on interviews with veterans from said time period and/or specific battles or invasions.

Looking at that list off of Amazon, it appears that he has written several more books since I graduated in 2006 - looks like I need to buy some more history books.

I just finished Born To Run. A great read and an inspiring book for anyone who likes to run, or wants to run more.

Now I'm back to That's a Winner by Jack Buck.
