I would expect DeRosa signing to signal a change in philosophy. That would be a chink in the plan B and show that the market is no longer stagnating. Once the plan B players start signing the Cardinals won't be able to afford to wait on Holliday.

i'm confused. what is your point?
my point is that while some clients of his have had demands met, he's screwed over just as many

but that all just leads to my point that Boras is going to decide where Holliday signs. I know guys can get what they want through Boras, and I think Holliday will as well, but don't think St. Louis has any advantage over any other team when it comes to signing him.

I think if the Royals offered a nickle more than the Card's he'd sign with STL.

Maybe, but if it came down to a million per year, I wouldn't put it past Boras to take a crappy team's offer over a competitive team

That's been my point. Sure, the Royals, A's, Pirates et. al probably can't afford Holliday and won't offer more than we have/will, but I find it virtually impossible to believe that Holliday doesn't have preferences (in terms of location and in terms of a team's odds of contending).

Plan B, if necessary, will hopefully involve a trade.

Compared to Holliday, DeRosa isn't much of a Plan B. You don't let someone like him screw up negotiations with a truly elite player.

I'm going to guess an ability to take on salary is the only asset we have going into trade negotiations
