they might have a little say...but it's very little. Very little. Name a Boras client or two that took less money as a free agent. There's a reason players pick him and it isn't for some control. It's about maximizing the amount of money he can rake in. And he's good at it.withAloe wrote:Do you think that's true for all agents or just Boras? Ken Davidoff reports SP would be their next priority (NYY).
Cards are bidding against themselves IMO. Hollidays poor performance as an Athletic will not allow any AL team to pony up. So it's us or the Mets and the Met's have a tighter payroll than we do.

Seriously? You think players surrender their free will and just leave everything up to Boras? I know he's hated (for some reason) but this statement is just ridiculous.BW23 wrote:It's up to Boras. That's why players hire him.

The player still has total control. If he doesn't want to play for a certain team he doesn't have to sign the contract.BW23 wrote: they might have a little say...but it's very little. Very little. Then name some Boras clients that have taken less money. I'm having a hard time coming up with any that have left money on the table.
And I don't hate Boras at all. He's the best at what he does.

obviously. Yet what Boras clients do that. Some may. I don't know. But I certainly can't think of any.InvincibleCakeEater wrote:The player still has total control. It's easy to say I'm wrong. But I asked for names of players that have done this. I'm waiting on names. I guess that's harder than just telling someone they're wrong.

I wouldn't say he took less. He got an offer almost ten times what he had been offered from anyone about 7 months earlier. He wouldn't have gotten that much on the open market. But he might be one of the few, if not the only one, who signed before testing the market.

I think A-Rod, Zambrano, Sheffield, and Kenny Rogers are a few players who have fired him.

First of all, how often do we even find out about how much other teams were offering? Secondly, agents who are good at what they do will get the preferred teams to offer approximately as much as any other team is willing to offer.
Could it be that Holliday is really willing to play for any team? I guess. Afterall, even lousy teams sometimes sign big name free agents (winning isn't a top priority for every player). But it seems more likely to me that Holliday (a star player in his prime who has never won a World Series) saying he's willing to play anywhere is a ploy (perhaps Boras advised him to say it).
