It's up to Boras. That's why players hire him.

Rotoworld:
This seems to make is less likely that the Yankees would have room for Holliday.......Ken Davidoff of Newsday reports that the Yankees and first baseman Nick Johnson are "wrapping up" a one-year deal worth $5.5 million.
Johnson will serve as the primary designated hitter for the Yankees in 2010, a spot held last year by Hideki Matsui. The 31-year-old Johnson finished with a solid .291/.426/.405 batting line in 2009 with eight homers and 62 RBI in 457 at-bats. It appears Johnny Damon will not be returning to the Bronx.

LESS likely, PERHAPS, but still not UNlikely. Damon would have been retained to be their short term DH; Johnson replacing that still leaves open that left field spot currently held down by the underwhelming Melky Cabrera. This seems to make is less likely that the Yankees would have room for Holliday.......
Incidentally, what a waste -- a very talented fielder like Johnson reduced to DH . . .

-6.6 UZR/150 last year, maybe he's not as slick with the glove any more?skmsw wrote:LESS likely, PERHAPS, but still not UNlikely. Right. And there's also still a chance that Damon could play left field for them.skmsw wrote:LESS likely, PERHAPS, but still not UNlikely. Maybe they figure he might stay healthy if he could relax on the bench instead of fielding a position. I personally would have thought the Yanks would have wanted a DH that could play the field some day for when Posada is going to DH, but I guess not.cards2468 wrote:-6.6 UZR/150 last year, maybe he's not as slick with the glove any more?skmsw wrote:LESS likely, PERHAPS, but still not UNlikely. What's with that bit about Damon being thrown into a blurb about the Yankees signing Johnson? If Davidoff is correct, I'd say it means the Yankees are *more* likely to pursue Holliday.Ken Davidoff of Newsday reports that the Yankees and first baseman Nick Johnson are "wrapping up" a one-year deal worth $5.5 million.

Do you think that's true for all agents or just Boras? Do you not think his clients have any say in which teams he negotiates with? Do you not think his clients give him a list (short or long) of teams, ranked in order of preference?BW23 wrote:It's up to Boras. That's why players hire him.

He doesn't always have full control. Last year Teixeira made him find a deal before Christmas. Others have gotten him to get them a deal from particular teams. Matt Holliday, on the other hand, just wants a long tenure somewhere, and he doesn't care where.withAloe wrote:Do you think that's true for all agents or just Boras? I understand you're basing that on something he said publicly, but I'm skeptical. It might be true, but I find it hard to believe that Holliday isn't telling Boras where he'd prefer to play for the next 5-8 years of his career. How could you not care?cards2468 wrote:He doesn't always have full control. Last year Teixeira made him find a deal before Christmas. Others have gotten him to get them a deal from particular teams.
