The only problem is that all 3 of those guys have a lot of suitors. Having 5-10 suitors for each one of them and having to outbid all other teams for all three guys is going to take a ton of money, and probably will end up costing more than Holliday + 5th SP and 3B.cards2468 wrote:I'm content with DeRosa for left and Beltre for 3b with Smoltz for closer or 5 spot in the rotationcpebbles wrote:Problem being that Plan B sucks unless the contracts given to Mike Cameron, Andy Pettitte, and possibly Rich Harden get invalidated for some reason. Boras knows that too.cards2468 wrote:Not entirely. I think we're the only team that will give him the years he wants, and we can just as easily tell Boras to go f himself and go with plan B.

pretty stupid reasoning they have to offer... he has plenty of friends on the Cards team and now his personal hitting coach is the Cardinals hitting coachdoe_boy wrote:Anybody post this one yet.

none of it matters though, it's up to Boras to decide where he plays

Only if Holliday simply wants to go where he can get the biggest contract. Otherwise, it's up to Holliday to decide.cards2468 wrote:none of it matters though, it's up to Boras to decide where he plays

Actually, Holliday decides. It is Holliday who signs the contract.cards2468 wrote:

Holliday has made it clear that he doesn't care where he plays, just as long as he gets the best contract possiblewithAloe wrote:Only if Holliday simply wants to go where he can get the biggest contract. I don't know him, so I can't say if that's true or not. For all I know, he's given Boras a short list and told him he'll play for whichever of those teams offers the best deal. Or maybe he's told him that he wants to play for Team X and that Boras should do whatever it takes to get the most out of Team X but he won't play for any other team.cards2468 wrote:Holliday has made it clear that he doesn't care where he plays, just as long as he gets the best contract possiblewithAloe wrote:Only if Holliday simply wants to go where he can get the biggest contract. He has said that he wants to play for a perpetual winner and is not necessarily favorable toward the midwest. Has never said anything about biggest contract, but let's just say that if anybody actually bid 8/180, he would probably not think twice.

Re: Update: PD Wrong on Holliday Offer/Length? P 99
A month or so ago he was on a radio show and talked about how he has no preference what so ever. Talked about how he likes the east coast and the west coast and doesn't mind anything in between, I believe he used Atlanta specifically as an example of a non-coastal city that he would be fine with. All he really cares about is that he gets to give his family somewhat of a "normal" life by being sure that he'll be in the same place for many years and won't have to move them again.withAloe wrote:I don't know him, so I can't say if that's true or not. I guess I'm about as skeptical about what Holliday says publicly as I am of what Boras says publicly. Saying "I'm willing play anywhere" is obviously more beneficial to the player than saying, "I'll only play for Team X."
And I'm just as skeptical of the reports that claim to know what they're saying privately.
