Re: The Beer Thread
Interesting article confirming what I suspected - St. Louis loyalty to AB is decreasing.

Re: The Beer Thread

I had this the other night and it was so sour I couldn't even drink it. Apparently I am a rank amateur beer lover.

Nice.
Meh. Most people will always find cause to criticize corporations regardless of what they do.

Re: The Beer Thread
I decided to stop holding my Ofallon prejudice against Ofallon Brewery's 5-Day IPA and gave it a try.
pretty good IPA. Not a Bell's Two-hearted good, but similar in style.
kind of weird, but fitting - bought it at Target.

Re: The Beer Thread
You had an exceptionally profitable corporation that cut jobs to make some shareholders a few more bucks. People don't like that. Sure, you could say, that's capitalism, deal with it, well, so is a large group of consumers no longer being loyal to your product due to your decisions. That's capitalism too. You had a ton of people who bought the product to support local business ownership, and now the business is not locally owned. What do you expect?Hungary Jack wrote:"Open wide and eat a fat one."Freed Roger wrote:Interesting article confirming what I suspected - St. Louis loyalty to AB is decreasing.

True. The only reason I found it interesting (the trend in declining AB STL market share, not the comment section to article) is because the market trend is parallelling my personal buying pattern as well as the small sample size of local beer drinkers I'm familiar with. In a superstitious way, it makes me feel like voting with my dollar is measurable.Hungary Jack wrote:"Open wide and eat a fat one."Freed Roger wrote:Interesting article confirming what I suspected - St. Louis loyalty to AB is decreasing.

Buying predominantly AB for parties, BBQs and my fridge stock was just a habit for me. I felt a bit STL patriotic about it. Thats gone. My loyalty buy now goes first to the best tasting beer, and second to Schlafly. No -I'm not naive enough to think any of this means squat to the global beer market.
There is no formal AB boycott in STL, but definitely more people in STL are trying something other than Bud Light for a change. A groundswell of sorts.
On a side note - AB used to be like the beer fairy in St. Louis. Employees would get more free beer than they could handle and it would circulate around STL. A few charities I'm familiar with used to get AB beer gratis for their fundraisers. No more. Besides the layoffs etc, "no more free beer" may be affecting the local goodwill.

Re: The Beer Thread
I tried replacing Bud as my go to generic beer, but I couldn't. I just like it. MGD, Coors, Leinenkugel, ... I've tried several and I just don't like them that much.
The Miller products all taste dirty to me - like they just need to clean out a filter or something.

How do you pronounce this, BTW? As it appears - Schla-fly? Schlaf-lee? Where is the emphasis?Freed Roger wrote:True.
