Re: The Video Game Thread
I just can't talk myself into paying $16/month for games. I tend to buy about 3-4 games a year, which isn't much different from paying $192/mo for gamefly.Michael wrote:I've purchased way too many games. Why can't I love gamefly?
If they had a plan for like $8.99/month i'd totally subscribe to it, heck they can even put in a wait time for new games and i'd still get it. I pay $8.99/mo for my Netflix account, and I generally only get 1 movie out a month. But those movies + the 26 i've watched on streaming bring the cost to like 3 bucks a movie. Hmm, maybe i should just use redbox.

I play a lot of games. My problem is impatience and lifestyle.

Mike, you hop from game to game quite a bit. gamefly would be a good deal for someone who can sit down and tear straight through a game in a week and not get diverted playing a lot of MP online. I'd fall in the rut of having a game for 2-3 months at a time. I've got Oblivion, Orange Box and ODST sitting around basically untouched for months now, and I'm still looking to buy stuff I might not realistically play until next spring.

When I'm in a rut try something more casual. Games like Peggle and Guitar Hero are perfect. I don't feel like I have a massive undertaking.

Re: The Video Game Thread
I'm in the same boat with playing games for a long time or having them sit a long time. Though it's more to do with how I play. I usually like to take my time and explore the world to whatever extent it's allowed. My favorite thing to do with GTA was look for glitches and find spots to try and get "under" the map. Actually before that with Vice City, I used to try and find the spot where I could safely wreak the most havoc. The rooftop of the condo in Vice City was great for that. You could use up all the ammo, run downstairs so the weapons on the roof would respawn and then you could go back up and could start all over. I could carry a 5 star wanted level on forever.
I'm finally on the verge of finishing HalfLife 2 from the Orange Box. I started it back on the original Xbox and then sold it when I got the 360. I usually don't like linear games where you're on rails the whoe time, but there's so much variety with that gravity gun and the puzzles that it doesn't get old. The puzzles are cool but I wish there was a way they weren't already set up for you. Like you actually have to build them yourself. That's probably too hard to execute, but I'd like a game where the designer makes a puzzle or a problem and even they don't know how you'll solve it.

I probably spent 100 hours just launching various vehicles up that large stairway on the side of the road onto the AmmuNation in the northeast part of the western map. Launching a fire truck up there is probably my finest moment in video gaming. It's not all that hard, but it just seems so implausible that I doubt many others have even thought to try it.

I just started looking some stuff up, and there's a glitch in Fallout I'm going to try tonight. I guess you get an object, and while you looking down at it on the ground, you push jump and grab at the same time repeatedly and that gets you on top of anything if you do it right. I remember I kept wanting to climb over the rubble in the city last time I played, so I wonder if it will work for that. Maybe it just pushes you off the map.

I was tempted with dragon age, but I still need to play fallout 3. Maybe I'm just not in to RPG's anymore.
Junkie's turn.
