There's no strafing, so to look around a corner when you're at the end of a hallway and can turn right or left, you have to sprint out with your camera angled, do a 180, sprint back, and hope you can do a 180 again before anything coming from the other direction can chop off your head.
Geeze.
That would make the part where the endless ganados invade the cabin and you have to survive long enough almost impossible.
It was pretty damn tough. The first time through the village where you have to survive in the house, and the time when you have Luis and you're protecting the President's daughter. Though the sewer bugs in the castle were damn near impossible if there were more than one of them, on Hard anyway.
I always hate having to worry about someone else when I play a game like this. The only one I liked was Ico, because you actually use the other person intelligently.

There's a great trick I discovered for surviving the first swarms in the village.
All you have to do is climb up the clock tower ladder and keep jumping down. Let them get close enough to hit you, then climb up the ladder again. They can't climb up after you and eventually the bell rings and they leave.
And I've never played Ico, though I didn't care much for Shadow of the Colossus, the "sequel". It looked cool, but I was bored and the frame rate was awful. Ico was supposed to be pretty good, I hear.

I don't think you have to spoiler that anymore, statute of limitations and all. I eventually jumped out of the window on the second floor and ran to the front of the village. When they were within striking distance, I shot the lead in the head, gave him/her a kick to knock everyone back, then sprinted to the back of the village. Worked well enough in the end.

To be honest...it's not that bad of an idea to put yourself a year behind the release for certain games. It definitely saves you money. I just picked up Uncharted, thought I'd play it until I buy Uncharted 2.
Just reserved my copy of Modern Warfare 2. I need to be real nice to my wife and kids in the next four days cause I'm going to be neglecting them on Tuesday when it comes out.
finished "xmen origins: wolverine"...borrowed it from a friend (while he borrowing batman:arkham asylum)...it's a great action game, really damn violent and fun...a "button masher" but still great...not perfect, but fun...
didn't realize till recently that assassins creed 2 and left 4 dead 2 come out the same day...i'm getting both but definitely l4d2 first...
I picked Assassins Creed 1 back up again a month or so ago and had fun with it again but quit again before finishing because I really didn't like the combat and the later stages became basically combat over and over and over again.
I'm hoping the sequel plays better to me because at its core it was a really cool game.
