An Alabama woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police say she let her daughter ride in a cardboard box on top of their van. Albertville Police spokesman Sgt. Jamie Smith said the 37-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after police received a call about a minivan on a state highway with a child riding on top.
Smith said the woman told police the box was too big to go inside the van, and that her daughter was inside the box to hold it down.
Smith said the mother told officers it was safe because she had the box secured to the van with a clothes hanger.
The 13-year-old daughter wasn't harmed and was turned over to a relative. A jail worker said the mother was out on bond Monday.

Cops: Wisconsin mom strips to avoid arrest

The criminal complaint alleges Laack stole a bag of beef jerky and a lighter at a convenience store Thursday afternoon. Police went to her home. The complaint said she refused to come to the door and began screaming and swearing at three children in her house, telling one that the incident was all his fault.

Police entered and tried to calm her down. With her children present, the complaint said, she stripped to her underwear and told the officers they couldn't arrest her because she would be naked.

I have personal experience dealing with a woman who was driving from Iowa to Fla with her children. She had to stop in St Louis to take her unconscious child to Cardinal Glennon after she was overcome by the gasoline fumes emanating from the open gas can they were carrying INSIDE the passenger compartment, in fact on the lap of the older child. The younger child was not drowsy, but going-to-the-ICU unconscious. I suggested the doc's also consider CO poisoning as the car was quite a hoopty.
