If this is the move that puts the Cardinals into the playoffs, shouldn't we also consider the value for the organization to be in the playoffs for at least 1 round?

Or continuing on with the 1 win = 4.5 mil..... how much does a playoff berth + 1 win = (Not to say he will equal 1 win in such a short time, but..... )

top 11-25 ranked hitters have a trade value of $25 million. Suffice to say, Wallace is a valuable commodity
How did they determine this number. That seems really high.
I'd be interested to know that, too.

There have been plenty of 11-25 ranked hitters who have never amounted to much of anything in the majors.

vs. Ankiel, he's gotta be a couple wins over the rest of the season, right?

Maybe, but maybe not. There is always that chance that Ankiel plays to the right side of his curve and Holliday to the left and you get essentially the same result.

I'm a "win now" type of guy, but even I am having some reservations about a Wallace for 2 month of Holliday deal. Maybe you do it with the hope of him falling in love with St. Louis and resigning (but with Boras I can't imagine he really cares where he plays as long as they pay him), but I guess this is what they pay Mo the big bucks to figure out.

edit ... to me, a better solution is to not do the trade and bring up Wallace and see what he can do.

According to ESPN, this deal is pretty much done. Holliday for Wallace and Peterson/Mortensen.

I'm starting to come around to this opinion too, jim, after being a big Holliday advocate (which means Brett's almost certain to be traded).

At any rate, we shouldn't give up Walrus without making sure we get more than a 2-month rental in return.

I know Morty is no Haren...but I don't like giving pitchers to Oakland. It makes my skin crawl. Peterson they could have.

I'm not a fan either. Walrus for Holliday+cash is still a tad excessive... throwing in a MLB ready SP that could be a #3 starter within a few years is definitely over-doing it
