I'm glad someone else said it. I've never understood the fascination with Scarface (or anything Brian DePalma has done besides The Untouchables).

i'll add a little more...pacino played a cool character, but otherwise it wasn't much more than a standard crime drama/mafia movie...to me at least

I thought the general consensus on Scarface was that it's very eh. Yet very, very quotable.

I think the only real fascination comes from rappers.

In fact, when 'Scarface' came out it wasn't really all that acclaimed. It came and went and while it was fairly popular and got some pretty decent reviews, it never had massive praise heaped on it like some of the gangster movies of the 70s. It's only 10-15 years later that it started to develop a cult following, being quoted, and t-shirts and posters marketed. Unlike the Godfather movies, 'Scarface' wasn't nominated for any Oscars and in fact DePalma received a Razzie nomination for Worst Director.

I actually think it's a pretty good movie, but nothing special.
