it's entertaining.. my wife and i work together and are side by side from 8am - 5pm.. so
after work on a normal night we'll kind of do our own thing after dinner.. my house is always clean..
i take my dog for an hour long walk after work, i go out with my friends all the time..
i'm outside all summer long, it's just in the meantime i enjoy the [expletive] out of a good movie..
and those lists i watched i've done over the course of many many years..
That's very interesting.

Part of the problem was the sound mix - the actual Italian didn't even seem to match the lips of the actors. Aside from that, I just found it rather disjointed and dull. I might have to give it another go someday.
I loooooooove The Conformist. It's in my top 10 or 15, in that neighborhood. Among other things it's the absolute best-looking color film I've ever seen, next to Apocalypse Now (both were shot by Vittorio Storaro, who is an absolutely amazing cinematographer). As for the sound mix - the majority of Italian films are overdubbed in post production, which is sometimes problematic, but it's never bothered me once I found out why it wasn't matching up.

I'm going to queue this one up
The Night of the Hunter
CHARLES LAUGHTON (43)

1955 | 93m | BW | USA | Crime Thriller, Psychological Thriller
"Agee's screenplay—from Davis Grubb's relatively graphic, forgotten novel—was a fearless evocation of revival-tent axiomism that shouldn't have gotten arrested in Eisenhower-era Hollywood. But Laughton understood Agee's proximity to Grimm vaudeville, and fashioned the most intensely expressionistic movie of its day, outside of Welles... Few "Golden Age" movies are as visually fecund, and few have been so ruthlessly plundered." - Michael Atkinson, The Village Voice, 2001
I wouldn't put Touch of Evil that high either, but top 100, yes. I love Orson Welles, he's one of my two or three favorite directors. And The Night of the Hunter is totally awesome.

i'm struggling with how many movies i watch.. i need to be way more productive..
i really want to start painting again so i just need to get into it and that should help
My big problem is that in addition to working on my house, I'm helping my girlfriend re-finish her basement, plus help my friends out with projects at their house. Plus I have a tough time saying no to volunteering for neighborhood events.

All that and spending 30+ days out on the road so far this year for work hasn't helped. I miss sitting my ass on my own couch and watching TV/movies. When I first got Netflix, I was burning through a few movies a week.

Which reminds me; did you get my bathroom finished yet?

Did I volunteer to do that too? Damnit...I'll be over this evening.

Popeye - I'm the same way with movies, and I'm a purported movie nut. I can't help it, but except for movies that completely enthrall me from start to finish, I'm always glancing at the clock at least periodically. Whereas with a sports game, I have no problem keeping my full attention. I don't know why, it's just how I am.

Do you get up and do little things during the breaks of a game? Perhaps it's the lack of an intermission during a movie that has you antsy.

I don't really. Most of the time I pause it at the start of the game on my DVR, go about the rest of my evening (cooking, cleaning, etc.), then sit down about an hour after start time and watch, skipping through commercials and breaks in play. When the DVR catches back up, I pause it and go do other things again.

I have trouble making it through an entire movie without having to stop it to go to bed, or get up and do something else. I feel way too unproductive if I sit on the couch for over an hour.

Having said that, Barry Lyndon at 92 seems like a good argument to not listen to critics.

How so? I'm thinking you think it's a tad overrated.
It's been a while, but at the time I thought it was one of the worst movies I'd ever seen, and I don't like Ryan O'Neal anyway. How Kubrick made it, I don't understand.

Just now thinking about it, I realize there's an odd paper-scissors-rock relationship to be devised here:

Stanley Kubrick beats Peter Bogdonavich
Peter Bogdonavich beats Ryan O Neal (see Paper Moon)
Ryan O'Neal beats Stanley Kubrick
i loved paper moon
Yeah, that's the point I was awkwardly trying to make. Somehow Bogdonavich got an interesting performance out of O'Neal, whereas (for me) O'Neal managed to make Stanley Kubrick suck. Yet Kubrick is the better director.
